PVE Friday Focus
April 10th, 2015
News and Notes
Thursday afternoon, Dan and I were working with our maintenance leads to adjust cameras that were moved during refurbishment. As we finished we moved into the Adventure Center. I was working on the computer with a third grade student. Dan was working in the seated area pictured above. Mrs. Sullivan appeared with our two friends who began working on math in the Adventure Center. They quickly found a book and brought it to Dan upon sitting beside him. It was great to see their comfort with the area and the desire to hear the story!
Last night we had quite a weather event and as I watch the morning news I feel we are the lucky ones! As discussed and viewed in our staff meeting, as demonstrated by the actual interior videos of a tornado at Henryville Schools, our preparation is critical and vital. This is true in knowing where to go but also knowing what will be happening inside the building.
PVE has a very busy day coming up on Tuesday, April 21st. We will welcome new students for Kindergarten Round Up and then host our PTO at 7:00 that same evening. This meeting is the annual meeting for officer nomination followed by a vote. I would encourage each of you as staff members to encourage families to attend and possibly even ask if they have interest in an active role. I would be happy to assist if you know of folks, so please drop me a line and I will reach out to these families.
Jon Galimor-artist on campus coming soon!
From Mrs. Hamton:
We are so excited about have Jon Gailmor on our campus for the next two weeks working with all of our classes to create a new song. During the first week, Jon will lead the kids through the lyric writing process. The second week will be used to compose the melody with the help of Jon’s guitar. We will also be recording all of the songs and each PVE family will receive a CD with all of our original songs!
We will be having 4 in-school performances on Thursday and Friday, April 23-24. Parents will be invited to these performances. Thursday morning from 9:30-10:15 will be Kindergarten and 1st grade. Thursday afternoon from 2:00-2:45 will be 3rd grade. 2nd grade will perform on Friday morning from 9:30-10:15 (this performance will take the place of our evening program this year!) and 4th will perform from 2:00-2:45 (this performance WILL NOT take the place of our evening program which will be the next week on Thursday, April 30).
I am working to create a schedule that is as uninterrupted as possible. I will touch base with teachers that will have an adjustment in their music schedule. We have to see everyone two times before performances! A finalized schedule will be coming your way tomorrow. Jon will also spend some time with our preschoolers! If you have time, it would help the process significantly if your class could have an idea of what they would like their song to be about before they come to music next week!
Thanks and let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
