Panther Weekly
News from Park View Elementary School: October 15, 2021
A note from Principal Mate
Park View families,
Thank you to our PTC and all our parent volunteers who helped make the grandparent breakfast and book fair a success this morning. I look forward to seeing everyone tonight. It will be the perfect night for hot chocolate and reading a book.
Students in grades 2-5 that took the CogAT Assessment received their reports today. Please check your student's backpack for this information.
Park View will be having fall parties on October 29. Guidelines for costumes, procedures, and the parade route are outlined further in the newsletter. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the parade will be canceled if there is inclement weather. Communication will go out to parents the day of if this occurs.
Have a wonderful weekend!
~Mrs. Kristie Mate
PTC book fair tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Guidelines for fall party
We invite children to wear costumes; however, we do request that the students leave masks or weapons at home. Students may dress with their class right before the parade begins, and we ask that the costumes fit over their clothes. We prefer that the children do not go home at lunch to change into their costumes or put on makeup because student instruction lasts until 2:15 p.m. Students wearing makeup and costumes are disruptive to their classmates and the teaching process.
Teachers who wear costumes will model themes or characters from literature or popular cartoons that do not emphasize violence or some of the darker aspects of the season. You are invited to follow this lead when selecting costumes for your children. Some parents may want to wear costumes to school. If so, please do not wear costume masks. This will help us to monitor who is attending the events at school.
Any child who does not wish to participate in the parade or party will be able to be involved in alternate activities in the school with teacher supervision. Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if your child will not be participating in the party so we know how many students to plan for in the alternate activity.
Classroom parties are being organized by the PTC room parents.
Please DO NOT SEND ANY TREATS for your child’s classroom. PTC will be providing a treat that will go home with students. There will be no eating at the class party.
Please remember NO PARKING is permitted in the fire lane in front of the school building, teacher parking lot, or in the bus lane. You are welcome to park in the south lot or on the surrounding streets where parking is allowed. Please be aware that all parents must obey the "no parking" signs on Williamsburg and surrounding streets.
Thank you for your cooperation. We truly appreciate your help in ensuring the safety of our students.
Parade will start at 2:15 p.m. Parties 2:30 - 3:15 p.m.
Students can get free dental exams at school in November
The DuPage County Health Department “Smile Squad” will be visiting all five CCSD 89 schools in early November to do free dental exams. This exam will meet the state-mandated requirements for kindergarten, second, and sixth graders. All students can receive a free dental exam and toothbrush. A letter will be sent home with the exam results. If your child meets financial eligibility requirements, they can also receive a free cleaning, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
The dental health clinic for Park View will be held November 4.

Halloween costume reminders
This year, students will once again be allowed to dress up for Halloween at school. Elementary students can wear costumes after lunch; middle school students can dress up all day. Student costumes should be non-violent. No students should bring a pretend weapon to school.
Even if your child’s costume has a mask, they will still need to wear their COVID-19 mask in school.
Costumes should be brought in a bag and students can change before the parade begins. There will not be time for make-up or hairspray. If possible, costumes should fit over a student’s clothes.
Updated exclusion guidance for sick students
The DuPage County Health Department recently made a small update to their COVID-19 exclusion rules. The health department advises that students should be excluded from school for 48 hours after diarrhea or vomiting have stopped. Prior to COVID-19, the recommendation had been to wait one day after diarrhea or vomiting had stopped. Students should also be fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) before they return to school. Please contact your doctor or the school nurse if you have questions.
Families and school nurses work together to keep schools healthy
Families must check their children’s health each day. Do not send your student to school if they are positive for COVID-19, have COVID-19 symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive. Use this chart (https://bit.ly/3jyrv3y) to determine if your student needs quarantine or isolation. School nurses or your doctor can answer questions. This video explains how nurses ensure a healthy learning environment during this pandemic: https://youtu.be/QAX_IfB2Ijs
Be sure to send your student with an extra mask

Community members that regularly volunteer at schools and are not vaccinated against COVID-19 can continue volunteer if they participate in a BinaxNOW test on the day they are scheduled to volunteer. The volunteer would need to come to the school at least 20 minutes prior to volunteering. The volunteer would need to fill out the BinaxNOW consent form: https://bit.ly/3t875Sq
All volunteers will need to submit this form at the school. Families that are simply stopping by the school for a few minutes to make a quick drop off or pick up are not required to fill out the form or test.
