MAP Testing
This winter, the School District of Waukesha continues on its journey in the use of MAP assessments. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an online assessment in reading and math that teachers and other professionals use to determine your child’s instructional levels, academic growth and other information that can help to improve teaching and learning.
The Hadfield assessment window for MAP is January 14th-January 31st. Your child’s teacher will communicate dates in which the reading and math portion of the assessment will take place. Please make sure that your child gets a good night of sleep prior to testing. Students are able to focus and think better when well rested and are feeling good. Please try to avoid scheduling any appointments for your child on the day of testing.
This assessment will be administered again in the spring as a measure of academic growth and to update student information that can continue to improve instruction for students. Additional information about MAP is available at www.nwea.org.

Attendance Matters
Help your child succeed in school and build the habit of good attendance early. School success goes hand in hand with good attendance.
• Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.
