Happy Break-Time!
Seniors: Good luck with finishing up outstanding applications, and take some time to check out scholarship options to help pay for college!
Juniors: If your family is traveling anywhere over the break, see if there are college campuses you can visit/tour where you are at...even if it's not a college or town you think you'd be interested in attending, visiting campuses can be a great way to start prioritizing your college wishlist!
Freshmen and Sophomores: Over break, take some time to volunteer or give back to the community around you in some way...this can be a great way to enhance your resume and potentially help you out with college and scholarship essays when the time comes!
However you spend the break, be safe, have fun, and take some time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends! When we come back in January, let us know how we can help you with your post-graduation pursuits...whatever they may be and wherever you are at in the process!
Happy Holidays!

I've Applied to College...Now What???
- Make sure you've entered your schools in Scoir for us to send transcripts.
- Watch your email for information about setting up your student account.
- Set up student accounts for EACH COLLEGE to which you've applied...yes, it's a lot of account creation, user names, and passwords, but this is how colleges will communicate with you! You'll be able to access acceptance information, financial aid award information, find out what additional materials they may need from you, and more through this account!
- Check the financial aid website for each school - see what their scholarship process looks like and check into scholarship options that require a separate application (some colleges will automatically consider you for scholarships, others will not).
- Make sure that you've added the colleges where you've applied to your FAFSA - this is how colleges make financial aid award determinations.
- Search for scholarships!
You can expect to get admission decisions anywhere from a couple weeks after you've applied until a few months later...it really depends on the school. Financial aid award letters are usually sent out sometime around March...while you wait, happy scholarship hunting!

$$$ Options for College...
Check out the MVHS Scholarship List! There are hundreds of opportunities to earn money for college...
- FAFSA - Stands for "Free Application for Federal Student Aid." This is the first aid application you'll want to complete, and is how you can qualify for need-based aid and the Stafford loans referenced above. Even if you won't qualify for need-based aid, if you will take any loan money, you need to complete the FAFSA. Some scholarships also require the FAFSA. Nearly every college accepts the FAFSA for financial aid consideration.
- CSS Profile - This is a more involved financial aid application used by only a small percentage of colleges (generally the most difficult colleges to get into). Check this list to see if any of your schools use the CSS Profile (note: NO Idaho colleges use the CSS Profile).
Other financial aid options:
- Always check the college's financial aid website - this will give you access to institution-specific scholarship and grant information.
- Also check the department website at your colleges...sometimes they will have special programs not listed elsewhere!
- WUE - The Western Undergraduate Exchange is a program in which participating public Western State Universities agree to reduce tuition for out of state students. You typically pay 150% of the in-state tuition rate, thus saving thousands of dollars! Every institution has its own policies and deadlines for qualification. Check the WUE website to see if your school offers the program and whether you should apply!
