3rd & 4th Updates
Week of November 28
Thank you to those who have sent in empty two liter bottles. To be able to complete our science project for the respiratory system, we need about 40 more bottles! If every child can bring in one, we will be all set. Ideally, I would like to complete this project on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Thank you in advance for your help!
Thursday, December 15 is our Spanish mass. If you child is reading, please have them practice daily. We will also practice in class. On that same day, we will have our class Christmas party. Stay tuned for more details! I know of some families that will be out of town before school ends; if you could please let Mrs. Silva and me know in advance, we would greatly appreciate it!
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Nolting
What are we learning?
We have moved on to the Respiratory System. We are learning about the different parts of the respiratory system and their functions. Please see above for the request for 2 liter bottles!
Math
In addition to finishing up our chapter on data and probability, we are reviewing the first four chapters we have seen this year. The goal is for long-term learning, not just knowing it for the week(s) we spend on a given chapter but really working towards understanding and acquisition. A lot of what we are covering also has to do with vocabulary, which we cover at the beginning of the lesson and review throughout the chapter. For example, right now, have your child explain "promedio", "moda", "mediana" and "rango" to you. As always, please have your child practice math facts and use IXL.
Social Studies
We continue to work on map skills, identifying types of maps and different elements of a map. This is something we are covering in both grades. If you have any maps, please send them in so we can use them in our classes and put our map skills to the test!
Language Arts
Third grade's next story is an informational text, La tecnología gana el juego while fourth grade will be reading Un domingo súper especial. These will be our last two texts for 2016. We have been working on vocabulary and spelling words from these two stories so far and will read them tomorrow and Friday. Both grades will also be working on the future and conditional tenses, leading up to a writing project on "If I lived in a snowglobe..."
