Shady Cove School Newsletter
In-Person Instruction Edition - February 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I am so proud of our students and staff for making the necessary adjustments and following our safety protocols. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for continuing to work with us and the changes that needed to be made to support our students to be back to on-site learning. We also understand that family personal beliefs may differ from what is now expected at schools, but by limiting that talk in front of your children and reinforcing the school expectations at home your child will have an easier transition to the "new" way of doing school.
Thank you again for your willingness to help us keep our school open to in-person learning by wearing masks properly, following procedures and reinforcing these at home. This wouldn't be possible without all of us working together.
COVID 19 Illness Protocol
We appreciate everyone's vigilance in helping to keep our community safe. It is crucial if your child has a COVID 19 primary symptom or two non-primary symptom they stay home for the recommended time. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact our office. Thank you again for your support in this matter.
Free COVID-19 Testing
This testing will go through August of 2021. Signing up ahead of time is recommended but not required. Results typically take 2-4 days. To check for the next available testing date and to signup go to https://blogs.uoregon.edu/osjp/registro/ (Please note, if it is not close to the next testing date this location may not show up yet on the website.)
BinaxNOW COVID 19 On-site Testing
As per our Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance, we have the opportunity to offer access to on-site COVID testing for symptomatic students and staff identified on campus. We are in the process of getting rapid COVID-19 testing kits delivered to our school sites. We have not received these tests yet but would like to be ready when they arrive.
These tests will ONLY be used if a parent has signed a consent form to allow us to facilitate the student-administered test. It is also important to know that a student will only be given a test if the student is already at school and the student has COVID symptoms. Students are NOT to come to school to get tested if they already have symptoms. Please continue to keep your children home if they are ill.
If your child has developed symptoms at school and you are interested in allowing us to facilitate a COVID test with your child, please fill out and sign this consent form and return it to the school office. Each school has a designated person in the front office that has been trained to conduct the actual testing, and reporting. The student will be required to swab their own nostrils. Consent forms have been printed and be sent home on Thursday, 2/11.
Drop off and Pick up procedures
- Adults are to stay in vehicles. (The only exception would be if you needed to buckle a student in a car seat.)
- Have students exit on the passenger side for safety reasons
- When dropping off/picking up you must go through the drop off line. Don’t park off to the side of the street or in a parking space and have your child walk to your car.
- Pull up to the furthest cone and drop off only at drop off points.
Again, we want to thank you for supporting us with this.

Technology
We are doing this for multiple reasons:
- There are many educational apps that students can work on at home if families choose to.
- We want our families to stay familiar with Canvas and be involved with what students are doing in class.
- In case students' are sick and/or quarantined they can still access asynchronous learning and get support from a tutor.
Teachers are continuing to keep Canvas pages updated with assignments and family information/resources.
IPAD INSURANCE
If you haven't paid your iPad Insurance form you can do so at the front office. All you need to do is bring $25 to the office and we will inspect the iPad. We highly recommend this insurance. You never know when an accident is going to happen. If you have not paid the insurance then you will be responsible for the cost to fix or replace the iPad.
