GCS Reads 20 Holiday Reading Challenge
Students who read 300 minutes (20 minutes for at least 15 days) over the break are eligible for some great prizes from GCS.
High school and middle school students who record their times may win one of 4 iPad minis (1 Per Region) OR 72 $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards (6 gift cards will be given each level in each region.)
Students select books of their choice (perhaps a new one from the media center?) and record on reading logs that they can get from any NGHS teacher or the library. Turn in to the media specialist, Ms. AC, by Jan. 16 and I will forward your logs for the contest. For more information, go to the district site.
Good luck and get reading!

What's APP-ening?
There are several tools out there to create eportfolios of student work. AASL regularly recommends the best apps for teaching and learning and included Easy Portfolio this year. According to AASL, you can capture a "variety of artifacts including videos, pictures, audio files, links to external sites, and documents can be saved to a student's portfolio." IOS & Android : $

Websites to visit (or revisit)
The Library of Congress American Memory web site provides a enormous collection of primary documents about American life -- the history of advertising, voices from slavery, American presidents, women's history, folklife, etc. They are adding new material all the time.
