Media Literacy Education | Definitions
Digital Citizenship • includes the topics of privacy, relationships, online communication, and can even extend to both civic engagement and the social/emotional aspects of digital life. It also includes the way we interpret information that is presented to us when we are online (news, information and media literacy). (UNESCO)
Information Literacy • The ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate, effectively use and communicate information in its various formats.
Media Literacy • The ability to read, analyze, evaluate and produce communication in a variety of media forms.
Technology (Digital) Literacy • specifically applies to media from the internet, smartphones, video games, and other nontraditional sources. Digital literacy includes both nuts-and-bolts skills and ethical obligations. (NAMLE, 2021)
