Navigation Acts
The Navigation Acts were created for the colonies to bring merchitalism to a realality for England. The Acts say that colonists could only use English ships for trade and that they can only trade with England. This was followed by the Sugar act, the act states that rum manufacturers would have to spend extra money on unnecessary sugar. These acts created confict and tension between Britain and the colonies.
The Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was created after the Frech and Indian war. The Proclamation was created by King George lll. It was created to keep a good relationship with the natives.Although it was created to do good, it created even more tension white the colonies.
Stamp Act
The stamp act was an effort by Britain to pay off war debt by taxing the colonists on all paper products sold in the colonies.After the act was past the colonists became very angry. They created groups called the Committees of Correspondence which was a group that boycotted an unfair law.Another group called th Sons Of Liberty. This group captured and inflicted violence upon the British soldiers.The colonies created the Stamp Act congress to discuss the taxes. After all of this, the King decided it was best to just repeal the Act.
Quartering Act
While colonists were protesting, Britain sent more troops to control the situation. As a result of more soldiers than beds, the King came up with the Quartering Act. It states that the colonists must house, feed, and cloth the soldiers while they are at their house. The soldiers got in because of the Writs of Assisstance. The Writs of Assisstance were blank search warrants. Colonists didn't have the money to do that so the became even more frustrated. They were also worried about a complete stranger in their homes.
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts taxes items such as imported tea, glass, and papey. The colonists were not happythat there was going to be more taxing. Because of this new taxation a new group of women was started called the Daughters of Liberty. The Daughters of Liberty made their own good instead of buying britains goods. Although the act was repealed in 1770 there was still a tax on tea.
Boston Massacre
On March 5,1770 in Boston, Massacheusetts angry colonists had gathered around and started screaming at British soldiers. When it became intense British soldiers were forced to shoot. In total 5 people were killed. Sam Adams took advantage of the situation by spreading it as propaganda. But one man, John Adams defended the soldiers saying they did what they had to do.
Coercive Acts
After the Boston Tea Party, Britain came up with a new act called the Coercive Acts or the Intolerable acts. it was called the Intolerable Acts because the laws were so unfair. Some laws state the there were no more town meetings,British control in every colony, and the most harsh of all, the Boston Harbor was closed. With all of the bad things that had happened with the colonies, Britain should have known it was only a matter of time...
