PICTURE DAY IS THE 27TH
Counselor Corner
Counselors want to send a giant thank you to families for your flexibility and patience as we worked diligently during the first couple weeks of school to get student schedules squared away. It feels AMAZING to have students settled into their routines.
With scheduling done we can move on and get into classes! Our first lesson that teaches students all about us, our role and how to make an appointment happened this week in science classes. Ask your students about it!
We will continue with lessons that we push into classes to teach and look forward to this year.

Chromebook UPDATE!
Student Chromebooks are Coming! Chromebook Check Out will be on Wednesday, September 21st, Thursday the 22nd and Monday the 26th.
The week has finally arrived and students will be checking out a PPS chromebook for both home and school.
Families should expect a PPS 1:1 Parent/Student Agreement form to be sent home with students on Monday or Tuesday. Please review it with your student, sign it, and have them return it to their homeroom teacher. It is important for families to understand Portland Public School’s expectations of technology use at school and at home when using a PPS-issued device.
Students will also be reviewing Kellogg’s Three Tenets of Technology in their homeroom classes this week: Be Prepared, Protect It, and Use it as a Learning Tool.
Part of being a middle school student is building routines that will set them up for success in high school. At Kellogg it is expected that every student brings their computer to school with a fully charged battery on a daily basis. Please support them to get into the habit of bringing their computer everyday.
SECURLY HOME For Families
Our district uses Securly to help families set internet filtering rules for their children when using school devices and accounts at home.
As a parent or guardian, you can use Securly to stay on top of your child’s online activity in real-time from anywhere, with the SecurlyHome App. Securly will also send parents/guardians weekly email reports with a snapshot of their student’s internet activity. This report is a wonderful opportunity for parents and guardians to open a dialogue with their students about their digital lives.

SUN Update
Fall SUN extended-day classes at Kellogg begin on October 3rd: Enrollment forms can be found here. Paper copies will also be given to Homeroom Teachers, and we will be at Kellogg for Back to School Night if you would like to complete one in person.
Enrollment packets are due back to Room 111C by September 26th.
Classes with less than 5 students registered will be canceled. We may be adding additional classes/clubs depending on staffing- keep an eye out for this information.
Client Assistance Funds:
We are waiting on our ARPA funds to be distributed to Kellogg SUN for client assistance. For the 2022-2023 school year, families must meet federal guidelines for assistance and experience negative economic impact from the Covid-19 pandemic to qualify for support with these funds.

Carri Nowak (sounds like no vack) and Miss Jayne; both have many years in public education and school library media. In August, the library collection more than doubled due to a generous grant last school year. If you are interested in volunteering, we could use help with covering, stamping, labeling new books and reshelving books. Visit this link: https://www.pps.net/volunteer
We look forward to meeting you and your students.
