- Mushers raced from Anchorage to Nome to deliver Diphtheria medicine

Rules
- At least 12 dogs start, no more than 16 dogs can start
- At lest 5 dogs must finish
- Only Breeds like Siberian Huskies and and Alaskan Malamutes can race
- Rule came along in the early 1990's
- Mushers must wear a fur parka
- Mushers must be 25 or older

- Red lantern award given to the last finisher
- Teams run six hours rest six hours
- Longest run 32.5 days
- Dogs are fed 60% to 70% fats
