A powerful image
The most powerful image created in my mind is the picture I drew above. Its a caged bird sitting on top of the grave of dreams in the middle of a forest at night, in the background you can see a fallen log covered in moss, and a lost boy.
5-Key words
1. Free
2.Caged
3.Sings
4.Fearful
5.Nightmare
Hope is the word that makes these words powerful. These words are important to the poem because it explains that during the civil war African Americans were enslaved, but when the war ended they were free.

Two phrases
1.But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
2.The caged bird sings of freedom
The tone created in these two phrases is saying that African Americans once had dreams until Americans enslaved them. They did this because they thought they were better than them. The second phrase means some African Americans (who are still slaves, but in other countries) dream of freedom.

A Poetic Device
Repetition is the poetic device I found in my poem. Repetition means repeating words, phrases, lines, or stanzas. For example, the phrases: " Free bird" and "Caged bird" as well as the word "sing/sings" were stated throughout the poem. Repetition adds to the tone because the poet (Maya Angelou) used these phrases to explain freedom and slavery.
How They Relate And Create A Specific Theme
They all relate because they all mean one thing "Freedom". The theme is freedom because that is what the poet (Maya Angelou) chose to write about and when she put "the free bird" and "sings of freedom" its obviously means freedom.
