This is a basic outline of my positions as Pathways Consultant and Career Advisor. My personal goal is help schools prepare students for a successful life when they leave your halls and walls. Each student has unique talents, skills, and abilities so helping them discover, develop, and appreciate theirs is both challenging and rewarding to all of us as educators.
THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON TEACHERS
From the DESE Update:
Teachers impact students’ lives in tremendous ways and truly change lives. But, we are currently facing serious staffing shortages in the teaching profession and have been for years — and there is every reason to believe that COVID-19 may only exacerbate the issue. To help address this problem, DESE embarked on a campaign to encourage Missouri students to consider pursuing a career in education.
Current teachers play an important role in this work, as they can actively show their students how being a teacher allows them to help shape the future. We’re thrilled to share this brief 90 second video as part of this campaign, featuring Darrion Cockrell, a.k.a. Mr. DC, Missouri’s 2021 Teacher of the Year. Mr. DC speaks directly to fellow teachers asking them to join this important effort — and we’re asking you to join the campaign too! Share this video with your fellow educators today so they can help recruit the teachers of tomorrow!
TEACHER RECRUITMENT and RETENTION GRANTS
DESE’s Office of Educator Quality has opened the online application for LEAs to apply for the department’s new teacher recruitment and teacher retention grants.
Application information can be found in the Recruitment and Retention Grants section here, or by selecting the following links:
- NEW! Online Application for Teacher Recruitment (Grow Your Own) Grants (for LEAs)
- NEW! Online Application for Teacher Retention Grants (for LEAs)
It is important to note the following:
- There is a separate online application for the teacher recruitment (Grow Your Own) grant and a separate online application for the teacher retention grant.
- Both online applications will direct you to select the appropriate application for your region of the state.
The NEW guidance document for the teacher recruitment grant provides information about the Missouri Teacher Development System (MTDS). A team of MTDS consultants was recently hired to assist with these grants and are based out of the 9 RPDCs. I am very happy to say that Lori Pinkston has joined our RPDC and brings several years teaching experience in both small and large schools in Northeast Missouri. She will be great!
