Wylie Ways Student Service Supports
Student Services Department, Wylie ISD
What are Student Service Supports?
Because academic learning is inextricably linked to social and emotional competence, Wylie ISD's commitment to excellence does not just begin and end in academic success for all students. As a district, we will foster social and emotional health that sustains positive relationships and encourages responsible decision-making.
SEL - The Wylie Way
Our SEL and restorative practices strategies are simple but effective classroom practices that support our Wylie Way movement. These practices focus on these five competencies:
Self-Awareness - Knowing your strengths and limitations.
Self-Management - Being able to stay in control and persevere through challenges.
Social-Awareness - Understanding, empathizing, and communicating with others.
Relationship Skills - Being able to work in teams and resolve conflict.
Responsible Decision-Making - Being able to make ethical and safe decisions.
2021 SEL and Restorative Practices!
Restorative Practices are relationship-building and positive classroom management strategies that help create the most positive learning environment for students and staff!
These strategies include participating in restorative circles (where teachers and students learn a little about one another), positive classroom agreements (where students and teachers discuss how they will treat one another in the classroom), and affective statements (where teachers and staff use relationally-centered language to help show how positive and negative behaviors affect the relationships and environment in the classroom).
