LHS Monday Memo
Week of 11/4/19
Good evening LHS family,
So you are aware, there are 10 of us (teachers and admin) attending an all day MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Support) DESE workshop in Marlboro tomorrow, and 5 others (teachers and admin) attending an all day SEL (Social Emotional Learning) workshop in Burlington. Both of these workshops support the work we are doing with our TAP (Turnaround Plan).
We have been preparing for a full PD day on Tuesday and look forward to spending time learning together. We will start at 8:00am in the auditorium where I will share some school wide data to begin our conversations and wonderings. We made sure to include PD workshop options, so please make sure you sign-up for one of those (see Roxane's email).

Happy students!
“Students of elevate third period earned certificates that indicated their completion of 28 lessons aimed to grow their leadership skills. Meanwhile the students learned teaching strategies on how to work with middle school aged students. This is a cross age mentoring affect."
FYI - Elevate course description: Students receive a highly-engaging guided learning experience which directly aligns with the Common Core State Standards Initiative, the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning Competencies (CASEL) and the Elevate Learning Objectives. High school students are guided through their own personal leadership development within the context of 7 character qualities and 6 life skills. In addition, students are fitted with essential teaching, mentoring
and leadership skills to become Elevate mentors who deliver lessons of
leadership and character to elementary-age students. The course provides a balance of
class work relating to the development and use of: (1) listening skills, (2) communication
skills, (3) facilitation skills, (4) decision-making skills, (5) leadership and mentoring skills, (6)
character and life skills and (7) teaching strategies. By taking part in this course, students
are empowered to be leaders in their own lives and agents of positive social change in the
lives of others by building long-term life-changing relationships with adults, their peers and
younger students.

WHAT THE TECH!
Tech Tip from Malinda:
Did you know that you can use your computer and display items on your projector SIMULTANEOUSLY? All you need is to change a setting on your macbook while it is plugged into a projector.
On your computer GO TO > system preferences > display > arrangement > uncheck “mirror displays.” Only you see items on the main screen, and you can drag an item that you want shown on the projector to the screen on the right.
Now you can do things on your computer screen that the students cannot see on the projector. For example, enter class attendance while the students are completing a DO NOW that you have posted using google slides. I highly recommend practicing navigating between displays before you try this in front of students.
