Braemar Bulletin
September 16, 2022
Braemar Mission Statement
Settling into September!
You are receiving the Braemar Bulletin a few days earlier than usual as a result of the Province’s announcement on September 13, 2022, that all schools and school district sites will be closed on Monday, September 19, 2022, in observance of the funeral services for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Next week we head into the third week of the school year. Thank you for your assistance with the smooth transition to school routines. Throughout the past few weeks we have been visiting classrooms and appreciate the positive energy and excitement from students and staff.
Next Wednesday you are all invited to our annual Open House. Please see attached invitation at the end of the bulletin that was also sent out via School Messenger on Tuesday, September 13th. Please remember that Tuesday is individual photo day! We will end the week with the Terry Fox Run. To sum it up, it will be a short, yet busy week!
Yesterday, we held a Primary and Intermediate Welcome Back assembly for students. At both gatherings, the Code of Conduct, and other school guidelines were reviewed. Students also had the opportunity to meet Braemar staff. A key theme of Braemar, which is emphasized at assemblies and during morning announcements, is "I Belong, Young Belong, We Belong." This important phrase emphasizes that the uniqueness of self, and that the acceptance of others enhances our understanding of how to live together with compassion and mutual respect in an inclusive learning setting.
Have a restful long weekend. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday evening.
Until the next bulletin!
Sandra Singh, Principal & Cheryl Ham, Vice Principal
Message from Ms. Ross and Ms. Walker: School Office
Notices and permission forms:
Please remember to return all school forms as soon as possible to classroom teachers as soon as possible so that office staff can process and update student information. Additionally, please complete online forms sent by the district, especially the Walking Field Trip form which is necessary for students to participate in the Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 23rd.
Medical History and Update:
If there are any changes regarding your child's medical history and you feel it is necessary to share with school office, please do so at anytime throughout the school year.
Safe Arrival / Student Absences
Please make every effort to let the school know if your child is absent or will be late. This is important information for us to ensure all students are accounted for each day. For information on how to use our SafeArrival application please refer back to the the September 2, 2022 bulletin.
If you need to pickup your child during the day for an appointment, please email your child's teacher and remind your child of pick up time at the school office.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the Braemar open house on September 21st.

Terry Fox Run
Date: Friday, September 23rd
Time: 1:20-3:00
We are looking forward to our Terry Fox run at École Braemar on September 23rd from 1:20 pm to 3:00pm. Primary and intermediate students will have a similar run route. The last portion of the run will take place on the sidewalks of Evergreen Place before students head onto Mahon Avenue. We request that ALL drivers exercise extra caution between 1:20-3:00 on Friday. We will have parent volunteers and staff on the run route; however, we need your assistance in keeping our student participants safe also. Thank you for your cooperation.
Throughout next week, classroom teachers will collect student/family cash donations for the Terry Fox Foundation: contributing to the fight against cancer. “The Terry Fox Foundation and Terry Fox Research Institute work in unison building on Terry’s dream to end cancer through research” (terryfox.org)
We encourage our Braemar school community to contribute - every little bit helps! Support the Braemar “Toonies for Terry” fundraising effort!

We Are a Nut Aware School
NUT AWARE SCHOOL – NUT ALLERGIES
We have a number of students who have a life-threatening allergy to NUTS and exposure could result in severe sickness or death. To help reduce the risk of accidental exposure, we need your cooperation in order to provide a safe and secure learning environment. The following are respectfully requested:
1. Students do not bring food to school that contain peanuts or nut products (i.e. peanut butter, muffins/cookies with nuts, granola bars). Please read ingredients on purchased and packaged food items included in your child’s lunch and snack.
2. If your child enjoys peanut/nut containing products at home, please ensure that your child adds hand washing to their routine before coming to school. Even a small amount of peanut oil or dust from a friend’s hand can easily be transferred to crayons, books or playground equipment that can pose a risk for the allergic child.
3. Discuss with your child the importance of not trading or sharing food.
The above items will also be discussed with all the students in the classroom setting along with ways to help their allergic friend stay safe.
We hope you will appreciate the seriousness of this condition and that you will assist us in our efforts to create as safe an environment as possible for all students. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to call the school office, or contact Community Health at 604 983-6700.
