A Talk with Marilyn Sprick
A Look at Secondary Reading & Improving Student Growth
December 2, 2021 (9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)
Do you have secondary students who are not fluent readers? Join the AIU and internationally known intervention author Marilyn Sprick for a discussion of the science of reading and what you can do to increase your secondary students’ oral reading fluency. Marilyn and her team spent more than six years developing a comprehensive reading intervention program that yields an average of 35 words correct per minute gain in students over 90 one hour sessions. Students also average a vocabulary and comprehension gain of 1.4 years, more than three times the expected gain! There is also a prequel program for students who need to develop skills to be prepared for the comprehensive program.
These programs are appropriate for:
- Middle and High School Struggling Readers (grades 5 through 12) and adults
- General education intervention students
- Special education students
- Students with dyslexia
- EL students
Intended Audience: This session is appropriate for administrators of grades 5-12, general education teachers, special education teachers, school psychologists, reading specialists, interventionist, special education liaisons, ESL teachers.
“Things are going so well here! ALL of my kids showed gains on the recent ORF assessment. They were so proud of themselves! One girl said, "I outsmarted the program!" They are loving the Third Quest story, especially the informational text that we are reading. They are asking questions about the science behind what we are learning...I could not be more thrilled!”
- Mrs. Shelley West, Shaler Area Middle School
