The PUE Sunday Message
Announcements, Resources, & Celebrations 2/20/17 ISSUE # 3
The Sunday Message for the Week of February 20, 2017
Good evening to all parents and staff. This is Kevin Biles, Principal of Pleasant Union Elementary with The Sunday Message for the week of February 20, 2017.
Happy Sunday, February 19th Birthday to Literacy Coach/Reading Club teacher, Peggy Blocker.
We are targeting next Sunday for the transition to the expanded communication options with our families. You will not notice a significant change but DO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A TEXT FROM WAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS that will ask you to "OPT IN" to the process. You are likely to be given receipt of texts and/or email options. I will be continuing the use of the multimedia newsletter. Complete the following Google Form to assure that we have your most communication contact numbers.
I hope that you are enjoying the new digital newsletter via Smore. Continue to let me know if you are not getting the voicemail or email (kbiles@wcpss.net).
Thanks to Artist in Residence Shannon Newby for a great week with the 5th graders. She will be installing their "Coral Reef" in the school Makerspace over the next week. Be sure to check it out.
We also want to thank author/illustrator Henry Cole for his exciting discussions with our students and autograph sessions. The students thoroughly enjoyed him.
Principal Biles' weekly “Sunday Message” can be found in two locations on the PUE Website. The most recent message will be in the What’s New section. Past Messages are catalogued under Principal’s Message.
We need paper towel rolls for our Makerspace. Please send your rolls to our technology facilitator Mrs. Annette Hymel.
The Week Ahead
The March PTA Meeting will be held this Tuesday, February 21, in the new Learning Area/Teachers Lounge. We hope you will join us to discuss important PTA updates and get a first glimpse at the 21st Century student learning area.
Child Nutrition Services are planning to provide reminder phone calls on Wednesday afternoons beginning Wednesday, February 22 to families who are nearing a low balance on their child’s school meals account. Child Nutrition Services has developed a system so only those families who need the reminder will get a phone call. This system will supplement the current MySchoolBucks.com online set up where parents can view their child’s purchases and account balance at any time, and receive low balance notifications based on a self-determined threshold. They can also use MySchoolBucks.com to manage payment of their child’s school meals. MySchoolBucks.com offers a no-cost, secure sign-up, and is easy to use.

First meeting: Wednesday, March 15th, 2017
Cost: Free
Primary goal: Provide an opportunity for kids to play chess with other kids

We will use a combination of free play between participating students, informal pointers based on observation, and formal lessons in strategy and tactics based on workbooks, web resources, and parental supervisors’ knowledge.
