The Siegrist Star
Week of October 30 , 2023
HAPPY FRIDAY SIEGRIST FAMILIES!!!
This week we had many great activities in our classrooms, as a school and outside our building. I am excited to share a few of these highlights in this week's newsletter so you have an opportunity to see what our Siegrist leaders have been up to this week.
We are very excited to welcome everyone into our school next week during Parent Teacher Conferences and our Book Fair. Should you need to speak with Mr. Powers or myself, please stop by the office that evening, we would love to connect with you. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you soon!
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton
Welcome to our Second Edition of the Siegrist Student Star Newspaper
Each month the Siegrist Lighthouse students will create a student-led newspaper for all the students at Siegrist and their parents to enjoy. This student-led newspaper not only fosters a sense of community within the school but also provides valuable experience for the students involved in writing, editing, and publishing.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week was celebrated across the country this week. It was a time to pledge to be drug-free and live a healthy life. The national theme this year is "Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free." To celebrate we had fun dress up spirit days and a pledge sign for students to sign. Our Lighthouse team made drug free posters and greeted car riders and bus riders with their message. Celebrating with all our students!
3rd Grade Music Program
The 3rd graders rocked our socks off last night at their music program! They performed on the stage at the Wilson Auditorium for friends and family. It was so amazing to see how brave they were singing and dancing on the high school stage!
The program was based on our theme: Building Excellence. Through song and dance we shared that to build something you have to start with a dream, work hard and add to it what is important to you!
We had special music guests, Coach Crawford (guitar) and Dr. Dunlap (String Bass) playing for us on the song 9 to 5.
Many kids learned speaking parts and we had some fabulous soloists, too!
Great job 3rd grade! We hope you had fun and are proud of your performance and hard work. You made us all proud!
Automatic Door Accessibility
Siegrist Elementary has recently installed new automatic door opening buttons to enhance accessibility to our school. Starting immediately, the new automatic door opening buttons for handicap visitors will be operational. However, we want to clarify that while these buttons are available for ease of access, all visitors are still required to use our buzz-in button system to gain entry to the school.

☸ ELEMENTARY PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOKS
The 2023-24 Elementary Parent/Student Handbook has been published and can be found on the PCR3 District Website. Please click the receipt of student/parent handbook & student code of conduct 2023-24 button at the bottom. This will take you to your signature page that both parents and the student states that you are aware of where to find the handbook and that all families and students are responsible for adhering to procedures and expectations. This will need to be as soon as possible!
❄️SWEATER WEATHER COMING!🥶
Winter Weather Information
🧣Click here for information on school cancellations/modifications due to inclement weather, how the District will notify parents, as well as information on recess, Y Club, and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days. As a reminder, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past our planned make up days for inclement weather, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.
Have You Opted In to Receive Text Notifications from PCR-3?
School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, school cancellations, or just important school announcements.
If you aren't receiving the District's text reminders and notifications and would like to opt in to receive these, simply text "YES" to 67587. Standard text messaging rates apply.
Notes from Your School Nurse
Hello Pirate Families!
By now, you may be aware that the school nurses have a new computer operating system that is a companion to PowerSchool. With it, we are able to more efficiently document visits, keep track of vaccination records, medications, and communicate with our families. Some of you may have already been notified of your student having visited the health room.
SNAP emails that document health room visits come encrypted to protect sensitive information of the student. With the first email, you should receive a companion email that gives you a password. Keep this password saved as it will be the same password you use to access any future emails from your school nurse. If you did not receive this email, check your spam folder. If you do not have the email anywhere, let me know so I can resend you another password. My email address is guzmanh@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Opting out of encryption is possible, but that would need to be conveyed to me directly.
Please remember to keep an extra change of clothes in your student backpack as the health room has a limited supply of clothes, and things can get sticky when it’s Waffle Day in the lunchroom.
Flu and Cold Season is upon us, so we are seeing an uptick in sick students in the health room. If a student wakes up with a temperature over 100, please keep them home. Tylenol will only mask a fever for a short while, and will more than likely return after 4 hours. Any incidents of vomiting or diarrhea should also be grounds to stay home if it has occurred within 24 hours of school starting. Hopefully, we get our first frost soon, so some of the seasonal allergy symptoms will go away.
If you would like your student to have cough drops, parents will need to furnish those as the health room does not distribute those. The same goes for any pain reducers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Policy dictates that new, unopened bottles must be provided if you wish for a student’s pain to be treated at a school. Please do not send medications with a student as it increases risk of accidental ingestion. Parents should bring medications in, and an authorization form must be signed.
I am available in the health room from 8:30am until 4:00pm to answer any questions. I can always respond to emails as well.
Thanks!
Heather Guzman, RN

Did you know?
Did you know that Siegrist has a School Counseling Advisory? They (parents, business partners, students, teacher, social worker, administration, and school board member representatives) meet twice a year, once in the fall to look at data, program goals for the year, components of the school counseling program, yearly calendar and once in the spring to look at results. Both Mrs. Burrows and Dr. Mann serve all students in the areas of counseling curriculum, responsive services, individual planning and program management. CLICK HERE to view the Fall School Counseling Advisory presentation and learn what the goals are for the year, annual calendar of events, as well as more about the school counseling program. Any questions you may have can be directed to our school counselors.
