Accelerated Reader BIG Kick-Off
We decided that we were going to really promote the AR program this year. The ELA department, literacy coach, CRT and I decided to share some of our personal favorite books with every student on each grade level. The students wrote titles and author names down and followed up by reading several of the books the adults shared with them. We also had several students share a favorite book of theirs. Every student that participated in the sharing was able to select a book for their personal library. We had a great reading celebration!
Morning News Program Delay
Teachers, due to technical issues with the District and Time Warner Cable we are unable to broadcast our Morning News Program at this time. I apologize for the delay and we all hope that these issues are resolved very soon. In the meantime, I want you to see the faces of the Tigers that share announcements with you each morning at 8:35 via the telephone. Please let these students know that you appreciate their contribution of getting the news out for all to know. Our announcers are Avery Patterson, Ailiyah Brown and Louis Anderson. Go Tigers!
Computer Science Awareness Week - December 8-14
A group of seventh grade students participated in the Hour of Code activities on Tuesday, December 9 in the Media Center. The goal was to give students an introduction to computer programming. Our activity was kicked off with a videotaped message from President Obama challenging students to not only play computer games, but to create computer games. The students competed with each other to see how many levels of programming they could complete during that class period. You'll be pleased to know that there are some future software engineers and computer programmers in our midst!
South Carolina Book Award Nominees
Students often ask teachers to recommend a good book for them to read. Please join me in recommending the Children and Junior Book Award nominees for 2014-2015. We have several copies of each title in the Media Center. Each year a committee of the SC Association of School Librarians, carefully selects 20 book nominees in each category that they consider the best in recent literature.
