Principal's Message
Hello Wolfpack!
On Tuesday of next week, staff will be engaging in professional learning centered on ensuring that all students believe in their own abilities and that they belong in every class and every space in our building. Our work is guided by data collected from student surveys. Break out sessions include creating safe classrooms through relationship building, engaging in courageous conversations, and speaking up again bias. We are grateful for the time to learn together and appreciate the support of our community.
Have a restful long weekend.
The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

NC Student Dontae LaMere Presents at Spokane Black Voices
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, seven local high school students shared their essays, poems, and artwork at the second annual Northwest Passages’ Spokane Black Voices Symposium. NC student Dontae LaMere was among them to share his own work.
Students discussed the inspiration for their work. They talked about not seeing themselves represented in this city and how others have tried to define them. They celebrated the spaces they have found where they can embrace and celebrate their identities – through hairstyles and clothing, through school clubs like Step and Black Student Union.
Moderator Kiantha Duncan invited notable Black figures in the Spokane community, including SPS leaders Nicole Jenkins-Rosenkrantz, April Eberhardt and Stephaine Courtney, to join the students on stage to share messages of inspiration for the students:
- “Never give up on yourself. You are your greatest investment.”
- “Be fearless. Don’t let anyone take your voice. There is room for you at the table.”
- “Believe in yourself. Know your worth. You’re important and have so much talent.”
- “Walk in boldness.”
- “Listen to the stories of your parents and grandparents. Stand on the shoulders of your ancestors.”
- “Do you. Do not allow other to tell you what you can do. Have your own voice.”
- “Do not be ashamed of being Black. Do not be afraid of greatness.” (Quoting the late Sandy Williams)
- “You walk into spaces that don’t look like you, and you own it. You belong there. We have a presence in this city. We can’t hide. I live and love the skin I am in.”
- “Where you sit when you are old shows where you stood when you were a youth.” (Quoting an African proverb)
- “We survived a lot as a people. Listen to your elders.”
- “Be there for your kids.”
- “Everything is changing. Be more flexible and open minded.”
- “Remember your worth.”
- “The best thing you can do is show your support.”
- “Always affirm that you are great.”
- “Kindness. Smile. Wave. Be kind and pray.”
- “Be there for one another, for our community.”
- “Persevere. Never give up.”
