The Horseshoe Review
The Copeland PTO Newsletter
President's Corner by Cree Sanford
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was great to have a week off, wasn’t it?! It just makes us look forward to the two weeks the kiddos will have off for the Christmas holidays. Only three more weeks and the students and staff will be out for their well-deserved winter break!!
It will be a busy time at Copeland until then. We have some SRC demos for our 2nd graders coming up (Dec. 6th) and ourwonderful Copeland Spirit Cart on December 8th! Our Fabulous Fifth Graders will have their annual field trip downtown to see the play Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight, on Wednesday, December 13th. This is always a fun day for the students to dress up to partake in our Houston culture down in the theater district! They get to come back to a luncheon and the cafeteria all decorated for them. It is such a special day for our 5th graders and we wish them all the best! The 5th grade music program will be on Tuesday, December 12th. This date will also be our first general PTO meeting for the year. We will have a quick business meeting to vote on the amendment of our bylaws (last revised in 2003). To view the bylaws please visit www.Copelandpto.org . Please plan on joining us that evening at 6:15pm a performance from our 5th grade students will directly follow. What a great way to kick off the Holiday season!
Our traditional Christmas parties will be held on Thursday, December 21st during school hours. You should be receiving a letter or email from your homeroom coordinator indicating ways that you can help with your child’s party. We can’t do it without you!! Look for the party schedule in today’s Horseshoe Review. Our parties are always a great way to get the Christmas season started…. after all it is the most wonderful time of the year!

Classroom News by Molli Murray
As we gear up for all the special events and activities planned for this month we would like to take just a moment to thank all our volunteers who have spent their time and talents on helping make Copeland the best place for our kids that it can be. We appreciate all you do!
Volunteer Activities
We are always in need of volunteers and helpers for all sorts of things at Copeland. If you do have ability to volunteer on a more regular basis, there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at selina.sauceda@gmail.com for more info.
The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.
If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or mmcgah@gmail.com.

Science Resource Center by Selina Sauceda
Hello Copeland Parents!
I am excited for another great year at the SRC! Please
read
the information below to see how you can help!
What is the SRC: The Science Resource Center (SRC) is a CFISD center that brings curriculum and live animals, meant to extend on the science lessons done in class, to the schools. All materials and live animals needed for lessons are provided by the SRC staff.
Who is needed: The SRC demonstrations (demos) are done by campus volunteers. The SRC will train you in any grade level demo you are interested in presenting. Demo dates are then set by the SRC Liaison at each campus, and the trained volunteer presents the demo to the students on the assigned date.
How to volunteer: See the
Fall demo dates below and RSVP to Selina Sauceda with the grade level and demo dates you wish to be trained for: Selina.sauceda@gmail.com
