Congratulations to Mrs. McCracken
Our media specialist recently learned that she received a DonorsChoose grant for 2 digital cameras! Thank you again, Mrs. McCracken, for going the extra mile for our students!
How does DonorsChoose work?
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on our site, and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you.
When a project reaches its funding goal, they ship the materials to the school. Donors get photos of the project taking place, a letter from the teacher, and insight into how every dollar was spent. Give over $50 and you'll also receive hand-written thank-yous from the students.

Cash for Coats Report from Barbara Jones
As you are aware Bright Futures/ Beaufort County Schools supported a coat drive in November for area students. Because of the generous donation of Potash to the Snowden students of school coats for every child, our site council decided to put a different twist on the event. We decided to sponsor a Cash for Coats Drive. Each student was asked to donate $1.00 for the event. The drive raised $240.00. Snowden has an enrollment of 176 students. So as you can see the students and staff exceeded our goal!
Three students were selected to assist with the shopping spree: Nassiah Moss, Tra' Nijah Pettihomme and Hassan Moss. The students joined me on Wednesday, November 25. We discussed our options and prices at the two stores in consideration, Belk and Wal Mart. After doing the math, it was decided that Walmart would enable us more purchasing power.
We were able to purchase eight coats, numerous scarves, hats and gloves. Students focused on the coats and colors they would like to have and assured me other kids would wear the selected items. Can't argue Ninja Mutant Turtles or Hello Kitty! Popular picks for the accessories!
Our grand total was $239.98!
So glad our kids had the opportunity to help others!
Many thanks for the experience!
Mittens were posted to show who participated in Coats for Cash!
Congratulations, Hasan!
