Presenting Kentucky and Louisiana
Kentucky
The population of Kentucky is around 4.4 million. It was originally a part of Virginia, but in 1792 Kentucky became the 15th state to join the union. It is known as the "Bluegrass State", a nickname based on the bluegrass found in many of its pastures due to the fertile soil. It includes the worlds largest cave system, "Mammoth Cave". It is around 300-400 miles long.
Louisiana
The population of Louisiana is around 4.6 million. Louisiana is the only state in the U.S. with political subdivisions termed parishes, which are the local governments equivalent to counties. Much of the state's lands were formed from sediment washed down the Mississippi River, leaving enormous deltas and vast areas of coastal marsh and swamp. These contain a rich southern biota; typical examples include birds such as ibis and egrets.
The warm, wet climate produces thick, mixed forests of pine and other trees, or marshy stands of mangrove trees. Oil, steams, and waterfalls were important in industrial development. Southern industrial plants often were newer and more efficient than the south, and they created a lot more jobs for people.
