Birthday Celebrations
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful and joyful holiday break. Thank you to those who attended the Association Meeting! Some of the items we talked about: treasurer’s report, a nominating committee for the 2023-2024 PTSA Board. The nominating committee will consist of Mrs. Bae, former PTSA President Ray Baker, and current NLMUSD School Board Member Chris Staples (not representing the Board, but as Hutch parent). My goal is to help build another strong group of dedicated parents and continue to offer the events we have planned. If you are interested in joining the PTSA Board, please reach out to us at hutchhawksptsa@gmail.com.
I am also on a Legislative Committee bringing forth a resolution (Resolution on Inclusive Education for Students with Cognitive Disabilities). As some know, our oldest daughter, Katelyn, was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when she was 10. No longer a diagnosis, and now falling under the ASD umbrella, there were numerous challenges to get her the assistance she deserved. While our daughter was mainstreamed, there are many who are not, and that’s who we’re fighting for. While I do not pretend to know the struggles of parents and their children who are still fighting to have them mainstreamed, I empathize greatly. Academics are not the only struggles. I do give you hope - our daughter graduated from University of La Verne and loves her job 🙂
I posted the link on the Hutchinson Friends FB group. There you will find the complete 69 page resolution. This does not change the law, but rather, give PTA the voice to advocate for our students. If you have any questions, please contact the Resolution Chair, Karen Cull, President of Parras MS PTSA, Leg Chair at Redondo Union HS PTSA. karenfcull@gmail.com. If you’d like to support the resolution, please let Karen know and she can provide you with a sample letter to send.
Wishing you and your child a fun and rewarding spring semester!
Best,
Cindy Staples
