March 2024 (Where the Arts Come Alive)
Message from the Principal
Dear Red Hawk Families,
Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering partnership in your child's educational journey. February was a short, but busy month. We hosted the Kinder Kick Off, conducted academic conferences, hosted various readers for LOVE OF READING MONTH, completed our Peter Piper Pizza Fundraiser, celebrated Black History Month, and made remarkable academic progress in Benchmarks. Students even engaged in a "jump party" where they navigated obstacle courses with enthusiasm and determination.
As March unfolds and the weather warms, it brings a sense of renewal and growth, propelling our scholars toward their highest potential. With the upcoming Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment (AASA), our students are diligently preparing for this statewide achievement test in English Language Arts and Mathematics, showcasing their stamina and focus. Let's foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and resilience as we guide our students through this crucial period, ensuring they are in school daily so they thrive and succeed.
Together, let's cultivate a March defined by curiosity, compassion, and meaningful connections within our school community. Here's to an exceptional March ahead, filled with boundless opportunities for growth and achievement.
A Look Back: February
Jump Party!
Holladay celebrated students jumped 10 points or higher in their test scores as a way to recognize and encourage academic progress and effort. We will continue to acknowledge student achievements, to motivate and foster a culture of growth and academic excellence.

Kinder Garden
Kindergarten and third-grade students will collaborate to create organic garden beds at both Holladay and Quincie Douglas schools, fostering cross-grade teamwork and environmental education. To support this initiative, those interested in contributing organic soil donations are encouraged to contact Kindergarten teacher Ms. Jenkins, facilitating community involvement and sustainable learning experiences for students. This partnership between different grade levels not only promotes hands-on learning but also cultivates a sense of environmental stewardship among young learners.
African American Student Services brings Black History to life with a wonderful interactive event. They even brought She Phi to the stage to teach students how to step!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Mrs. Christina on her new bundle of joy. If you have questions regarding preschool, please reach out the the principal, Shakenya Humphries or preschool staff: Mr. Andres Leon, Ms. Libby, and Long-term sub Michele Bodelin. Now Enrolling!
Meet Mrs. Stembridge, Literacy Champion Award Recipient!
In February, our 3rd grade teacher, Bonita Stembridge, received LIteracy Award from United Way. Mrs. Stembridge grew up in Georgia, graduating from Fort Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. For the past 21 years she has lived in Tucson serving as an elementary teacher at Holladay Magnet School. She has an unmatched passion for teaching and loves to watch the students learn. She believes that ALL students are capable of learning and doing great things. She pushes each student toward their potential. She believes "Great readers are great leaders!" And so do we!!!
Congratulations on your award, Mrs. Stembridge! You deserve it and Holladay is lucky to have you!

A Heartfelt Message
It was with immense sadness, that we navigated the devastating loss of the Tanto-Brito family. During this year, I got to know Liliana as a vibrant fifth-grade student, who had a heart as big as her smile. She was generous and possessed a spirit of kindness, compassion and empathy. Those who knew the family shared stories of how they were caring and kind; they also embraced and shared their heritage with pride and grace. To honor and celebrate Familia Tanco Brito's life, services will be held at Martinez Funeral Chapels, 2580 S. 6th Ave. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone, with the burial ceremony at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Rd.
In this time of remembrance and grieving, let us hold onto the memories of Familia Tanco Brito's love and strength. May they rest in peace, knowing they were loved beyond measure.
If your family is struggling with grief and loss, we encourage our students and families to make use of available resources as a place to process grief.
I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who came to support during this time. To our TUSD counselors, thank you for your invaluable expertise in navigating grief and loss. Your presence and assistance provided a glimmer of solace for our community. Those of you who came to set up memorials, donate to the family, and share stories, we thank you. Your comforting presence made a significant difference in our ability to cope and heal. Your support is deeply appreciated, and it's a testament to the strength of our community.
