New! Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month (link) is celebrated annually in March, commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. Please help us celebrate Women’s History Month by helping us create a display in the library and/or donating a book to the library (wish list). We will return everything back to you in early April. Reach out to Heather Ferguson (hferguson@powayusd.com) if you have any questions. Thank you!
New! Ramadan
We would like to have our display case at the library entrance showcase Ramadan. We have some items donated to us from last year that we will be using. We are hoping we can find MV families that can create a Ramadan display to share with our community. If you would be willing, please reach out to Heather Ferguson in the library (hferguson@powayusd.com).

New! Introducing Mesa Verde's Special Education Parent Ambassador!
Mesa Verde is so excited to introduce our new Special Education Parent Ambassador, Christina Bunch! Parent Ambassadors are mentors who support and enlighten fellow parents of student with IEPs and those seeking direction as they consider Special Education supports and services. Parent Ambassadors bring experience and perspective of parents of children with disabilities to encourage collaboration between parents, students, and school personnel. Please read more about Christina in her bio below!
BIO: My name is Christina Bunch, I will be joining the parent ambassador group for Mesa Verde Middle School. I grew up with a great love of animals and wanted to help others. After college I got a job at a veterinary clinic. I loved helping all of my furry patients, but also loved being there to help and support the owners of the pets. Helping them understand what treatments were necessary, as well as being there to emotionally support the owners in both good and bad times. In 2017, after 12 years of working in the veterinary clinic was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that can affect the use of either my arms and/or legs at different times, as well as causing me to have seizures, and a permanent deformity to one of my feet having me be primarily getting around by wheelchair. Due to this, I had to leave my job at the Animal Hospital, and since then I have been focusing all of my time on my children. I have two sons that are both neurodivergent. They have given me firsthand experiences in having IEP’s, 504, inter-district transfers, and health concerns that required them to have specialized IEPs to accommodate those health concerns. We also have had one of our sons grow out of his IEP’s and then a few years later go through the process of having to get new IEP’s. I have taken a class on IEP to get extra knowledge to help my sons through all the hurdles they have faced. I have a huge heart, and I love all children and want every child, especially our neurodivergent children, to have the same access to the excellent education at Mesa Verde Middle school as any typical child. If you have any questions or just want to chat about your child, I would be happy to be there for you. My seizures make it very difficult for me to travel, but available via phone call, text message, or even to do a zoom meeting. Please let me know if there’s anything that we can do to help your child get the best education and experience while attending our wonderful school at Mesa Verde. Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Christina Bunch

Volunteers/Job Opportunities
MVMS is Hiring
The Difference Between a Guest, a Visitor and a Volunteer as per the PUSD Board Policies
1. A Visitor is defined as an individual who, with school district authorization, attends a student performance, special event, festival, open house, back-to-school event, sports event, athletic competition, etc. A visitor may either be accompanied or unaccompanied by school district staff. Designated school district administrative personnel are to make this determination. A visitor is usually not required to sign a registry.
Example: Your school is being recognized for achievement and members of SDCOE are coming to watch students or your school is hosting a Jr. Olympic competition.
2. A Guest is defined as an individual who, with school district approval, assists students, schools, and teachers on a non-regular basis or who individually observes a classroom or activity. A guest may also assist with educational programs or with special events on an occasional or infrequent basis. A guest shall immediately report his or her presence at the school office or at the designated school location upon arrival at the school and sign a guest registry.
Example: Your school is hosting the book fair, a play where parents are coming to watch, or a teacher needs help in the classroom with a one- or two-day tie-dye t-shirt project for the jog-a-thon. A class is hosting a party or a fun run.
3. A Volunteer is defined as an individual who, with school district authorization, voluntarily assists school districts, schools, educational programs, or students on a regular and ongoing basis. A volunteer is required to complete a Volunteer Application and have a Megan’s Law Background Check or a State and/or Federal Background Check completed.
Example: A parent is assisting with a weekly and ongoing project such as the running club or Lego league. A grandparent is helping in music or art classes weekly. A field trip chaperone and/or driver (usually requires Level 1 and 2 applications).
If someone is coming to help in the class only one or two times, they are not considered volunteers therefore do not need to fill out a Level 1 application.
Click HERE for steps on becoming a volunteer and all paperwork is on the PUSD Website.
