STAAR TESTING STARTS TUESDAY APRIL 9TH
STAAR testing starts next Tuesday April 9th.
Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and is at school on time.
STAAR TESTING CALENDAR 2023-2024
A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! STAAR testing begins next week for our 3rd-5th graders. I know these students have been working so hard. Their teachers prepared them with awesome activities and lessons since August 15th. There is not a doubt in my mind that each student will to their absolute best on all their tests.
I’m going to get real here. Do I want the students to knock the STAAR out of the park? Sure. But, I want the students and parents to know that a specific test given on one specific day of the school year does NOT determine the worth of any student! The state doesn’t see the amazing accomplishments and growth students achieve all the other days of the year. They don’t see creativity and all the thinking outside the box our students do in class. They can’t see the excitement and engagement in the lessons our fantastic teachers design. They can’t see the amazing growth our struggling students make all year. All our students in the Elementary, your child, is so much more than a test score. They are creators, artists, writers, mathematicians, history buffs. They have wonderful ideas, imaginations, thoughts. They are respectful, thoughtful, helpful, kind. THEY ALL ARE JUST AMAZING!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!
Mrs. B
¡Hola familia Bronco!

Please scan the QR code and considering sending your 3-5th graders an encouraging word on the first day of Staar Testing..
3RD GRADE - MRS. HOUCHIN & MRS. SMITH
Hello 3rd grade readers,
This week we have finished up our STAAR prep review. The 3rd grade reading STAAR is next Tuesday, April 9th. This week a note was sent home with students that gives parents the opportunity to send an encouraging letter to their child before STAAR. By scanning the QR code, you will be able to leave your child a special note on this important day! If you no longer have the paper, you can find the QR code on Class Dojo or Meadow’s Facebook page!
During our STAAR prep this week we worked with a nonfiction passage and analyzed the author’s purpose of informational nonfiction passages. The author explained the unusual history of potato chips. Students analyzed and completed graphic organizers while reading STAAR based passages. After reading the passage, the students completed an around the room activity by answering STAAR based questions.
Another portion of the STAAR test is revising and editing, therefore we practiced reading two passages and answered STAAR based questions. Students are also practicing this skill on their fast focus daily homework. This skill is much more than just STAAR based TEKs and will help students become better readers and writers as they continue on in their schooling.
I am so proud of all the students and the growth they have shown throughout the year. I am confident that each student will be very successful during the 3rd grade reading STAAR.
In social studies, we continued our unit over being a good citizen. This week students were able to describe and identify how to be a good citizen by participating in the government.
This week’s reminders:
The reading Staar test will be on Tuesday, April 9th.
On the day of the Staar test students do not need to bring their backpacks. The only things they will need to bring are:
Jacket
Water bottle (only water)
Student’s AR book
Please make sure your child is here everyday leading up to the Staar. It is crucial that we use this time to get them ready for the test.
Thank you for all y’all do,
Temple Smith
Math/Science
In math we are practicing skills we have learned all year to prepare for the STAAR test.
In Science we are learning about environments and how living and nonliving things can support each other.
Your child can now take math fact tests any day during the week. Please make sure they are practicing their math fact cards every night!
Please make sure your child is here every day. We are starting to prepare for the STAAR test, and we want all students to be well prepared for the test.
Math STAAR test is April 23rd.
4TH GRADE - MRS. WESLEY
4th and 5th ELAR
The time has come where the students are supposed to show what they have learned this year on the STAAR test. Please know that state testing is important to ensure that schools are being held accountable, but it does not accurately show the growth many students have achieved this school year. I've had some students grown in areas that aren't tested, like spelling, and other students who have grown 6 reading levels. Those things won't be shown on the STAAR, but I know the growth they have achieved. These students have learned how to think critically, write and use text evidence like an upperclassman, and formulate and generate their own questions while reading. They have been given a year of learning to think on their own and support their thinking. I am so incredibly proud of all of their hard work and know this years scores on the STAAR will be phenomenal!
Reminders...
Reading STAAR is on Tuesday April 9th. Bring a jacket, water bottle, and book to class.
Please fill out the QR Code and write your child an encouraging letter to receive before the STAAR test.
Have students read for at least 20 minutes each night. This is important for their growth as a learner.
PLEASE make sure students are going to bed at a decent time each night. Way too many students are getting sleepy throughout the day.
We are working on a field trip plan for 4th and 5th grade together. Be on the lookout for more information on that.
Pajama day is on Friday, April 5th. Bring $1 to participate.
Message me if you have any questions.
Thank you for all you do!
Jenna Wesley, M.S. Ed.
Meadow ISD
4to y 5to ELAR

5TH GRADE - MRS. GAMEZ & MRS. GUZMAN
5th grade:
We are reviewing STAAR content this week!
4th Grade:
We dissected owl pellets this week and they were awesome!!!
4th & 5th Math
-In 4th & 5thgrade Math, we are our STAAR Reviewing every day. I need students to be in class every day because with some of the units we will not stay long reviewing them. We will stay longer reviewing math concepts we struggled with during the year.
-All 4th and 5th Graders need to practice multiplication math facts every night for 5 minutes. Please, please, please…the numbers and the work are getting more challenging and not knowing multiplication math facts make it seem impossible. Some students shut down or do not turn in assignments. Students who are not passing their multiplication facts quiz on Monday have to complete a multiplication fact table, three nights a week. If students do not know their multiplication math facts, they need to be able create a multiplication fact table during the STAAR test.
Please be aware that STAAR testing begins next week for 4th and 5th grade students.
4th and 5th grade Reading STAAR test - April 9th
5th grade Science STAAR test - April 16th
4th and 5th grade Math STAAR test - April 23rd
Thank you for your support,
Stacy Gamez
Stacy Gamez.
