Hockey with the Iowa Wild
To wrap up our hockey unit the Iowa Wild Hockey team visited the fourth grade students at Hanawalt. The team talked about healthy choices. They also showed our students a few hockey moves.
Coins for Creativity
Every penny and nickel counts, so dig into the sofa cushions and clean out the loose change in the car this month. Hanawalt’s Day in the Arts has been an annual tradition for nearly two decades. It is a day our students, staff, and parents look forward to all year long! The focus of the day is learning in and through the fine arts, while providing our students the opportunity to work with community artists. Throughout this day, Hanawalt students will learn, and create with nineteen community artists. This is made possible due to the amazing support of our PTA, parents, wonderful staff, students, & local businesses. Each student will experience three workshops in the morning, from 8:30-11:30am. An all-school workshop will also happen in the afternoon. GO HANAWALT ARTS!!!
A Few Reminders
PTA News
At Hanawalt, we have 16.7% English Language Learners(ELL) students. Please view, Demographics for DMPS Elementary Schools, for further information. A new bill has been introduced to increase funding for ELL students, Bill HSB 576. Please contact House Education Committee Members and ask them to support HSB 576. This is also an opportunity to advocate for increased funding beyond the 2.5% of SSA (State Supplemental Aid) proposed by Governor Kim Reynolds with the House and Senate Education Committee Members.
We hope you can attend the PTA meeting on Feburary 18th at 6:30pm to meet with the DMPS administrators, Jake Troja and Barry Jones. We will address behavior issues, special needs, resource allocation and more! Please send questions related to these issues to the PTA email: HanawaltElementaryPTA@gmail.com. This will allow Jake and Barry the opportunity to provide thoughtful answers.
