The Tragedy of Macbeth
by Jaydon Piburn
Wicked Witches
Though Macbeth encounters the witches only a few times, he is still very persuaded by what they have to say in the prophecies which eventually cause Macbeth's downfall. When he first meets the witches, they claim "Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!" (1.3.54-55). The second prophecy states that "Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!" (1.3.56-57). The third prophecy tells him that although Macbeth will be king, his friend Banquo's kids shall be king after him. The last prophecy upsets Macbeth because it shows him that his children will not sit on the throne. The causes him to be self conscious of his new power and his "fears in Banquo stick deep, and in his royalty of nature reigns that which would be feared" (3.1.53-55). This causes Macbeth to want to kill his best friend and murder his children so that part of the prophecy can't come true. After Macbeth was awarded with the title of thane of cawdor, he realized that the witches prophecy came true. This caused Macbeth to want the rest of the prophecy's to come true. Therefore, driving Macbeth mad.
Foreshadowing
This is a picture of Macbeth sitting in his newly gained throne. The picture is a part of the witches prophecies. One of the prophecies is Macbeth will become king, this is foreshadowing the horrible events to come. In the beginning of the play macbeth is greeted by the witches who say, "All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" (1.3.56) meaning that the witches are describing what will happen in the future.
Tragedy
Macbeth is a story filled with tragedy, but one of the most devastating event was the murder of Banquo. Banquo was Macbeth best friend but will soon be vanquished from the power hungry Macbeth. Macbeth doesn't care if Banquo's soul " Finds heaven" (3.1.158) or burns in hell, he will do anything to keep his title of king. Macbeth must remain calm during all of these horrific events, in fear of blowing his cover.
Tragic Hero
In the play Macbeth is playing the role of a tragic hero. Every hero has their flaw, which is their weakness and leads to their destruction. Macbeth's flaw is that he is easily manipulative. In the play, Macbeth is manipulated by making the prophecies become as true as he can. In the beginning Macbeth is seen as a hero to all including King Duncan, Duncan even named him "My worthy cawdor" (1.4.54) but that soon changes for the worst. Macbeth goes on to kill King Duncan and everyone else who stands in his way.
Macbeth and the plastics
The movie Mean Girls is about a group of three girls who will do anything to become as popular as they can be, even if that means ruining someones life. The three girls in the group; Regina George, Karen Smith, and Gretchen Wieners, resemble the three witches in Macbeth. In the movie, Cady Heron gives Regina George a taste of her own medicine by ruining her life. In the play Macbeth, the three witches ruin Macbeth's life by making him into a power hungry, insure person. In the movie Cady says " You made me like this" (cite) this can be said for Macbeth; the three witches turned Macbeth into a different person just like the plastics changed Cady. The witches slowly changed Macbeth, they don't care what they do because " Fair is foul, and foul is fair" (1.1.12). The plastics say whatever, do whatever and act however they want because they don't care how much actions and words can change someone. The plastics and the witches both ruin someones life.

It drives you insane
The song You know you like it by DJ Snake represents the play Macbeth because in the song it states "You know you like it but it drives you insane" which resembles Macbeth problem. Macbeth is power hungry, he "likes" it but it drives him "insane". The song then goes on to say " What you want, what you gonna do?" those song lyrics describe Macbeth wondering if killing someone is the right thing to do and if its really what he wants.
