PVMS Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a rigorous, world-class education which inspires students to become active, compassionate, and collaborative lifelong learners who understand and respect other people and their differences.

We are so excited to partner with you through this next phase in our journey!
Welcome to Mrs. Maus!
Learner Profile of the Month: Reflective
As a PVMS Family, we focus on a different Learner Profile (a trait that we strive to display to become the best people possible) every month. For January we are focusing on being Reflective. We are Reflective when we give thoughtful consideration to our own unique experiences. Teachers will be choosing students for Student of the Month who are an example to others in exemplifying that they are Reflective. We encourage students to wear blue every Friday during January to represent our Learner Profile of the month.
You will see signs displaying the Learner Profiles throughout the school. The profiles are also posted above the white board in each classroom. Teachers have a second set of magnetic Learner Profiles that will make it easier to highlight which Profiles are relevant to the current classroom activity.

Pennies for Patients, formerly Pasta for Pennies, is back at PVMS!
PVMS has launched Pennies for Patients. The collection period is January 14th-February 1st.
Pennies for Patients is a service learning and philanthropy program for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where students learn about blood cancers and get to make an impact on the lives of others.
The money our school collects will provide support for patients and their families and fund research to find cures. Funds are raised in honor of local students affected by blood cancer. Several Honored Hero posters will be placed around the school during the collection period.
Parent letters about the Pennies for Patients campaign and coin boxes were sent home with students on Monday, January 14.
Students need to bring donations to their 1st period classrooms. They have the opportunity to win Hero Squad Gear if they raise $5 in their coin boxes and/or $10 or more online.
Thank you for supporting Pennies for Patients and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Planner Feedback
Planner Tip of the Month
A HUGE thank you to Advantage Real Estate Services, True North Counseling Services, and Weld-Rite Hitch Co. for your financial support with our fantastic new planners! Make sure you check our their advertisements on the inside cover!
Please continue to encourage your child to write in his or her planner in every class every day. It's a great life skill that connects beautifully with the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that are featured on pages 2-6 of the planner. As you look through the ATL skills in the planner, you might find yourself saying, "I do that all the time!" and "My child really needs to learn how to do that!" and "I wish that someone had taught me how to do that in school- it's a great life skill!". That's what ATL skills are- skills that students need to be successful not only in school, but in life as well. The teaching of these skills takes place through the context of the eight subject areas and are embedded into the teaching and learning in the classroom.
If your child misplaces this great resource, the replacement cost is $5 while supplies last.

Verizon Wireless Customers: Changes to Remind
Information from Remind:
Recently, we learned that Verizon will be charging Remind a new fee that makes it impossible for us to continue supporting free text messaging for anyone who has Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier. Please read on for all the important details—we promise to keep this as short as we can.
What’s happening?
To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that our users receive or send. Now, Verizon is charging Remind an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over its network. Your Remind messages aren’t spam, but our efforts to resolve the issue with Verizon haven’t been successful.
As a result, the Verizon fee will increase our costs of providing text messaging by 11X—pushing our annual costs into the millions of dollars. This isn’t financially feasible for us to support, and it’s forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone who has a wireless plan with Verizon.
How will this affect you?
Beginning January 28, 2019, the people in your classes who normally get your Remind messages as texts will no longer receive these messages if they have Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier.
What can you do?
To make sure people in your classes continue receiving your messages, ask them to download the mobile app or enable email notifications—both of which are free of charge. Our team’s also working hard on a solution that allows your classes to continue to use Remind by text, and we’ll share more details with you before January 28.
In the meantime, we’ll keep fighting to make sure educators, students, and parents have access to effective communication. To do this, we need your help: If using Remind has made a positive impact in your classroom, at your school, or anywhere in between, please ask Verizon to reverse the fee here: www.remind.com/verizon-fee
We’re very grateful for your support, and we’ll be in touch soon with an update.
Sincerely,
The Remind team
