Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates May 19, 2019
Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
What a wonderful week of student accomplishments, recognition and performances. A special congratulations goes to Kaitlyn Flint, Danayah Cantoral, Calyssa Stevenson, Haes Shake, Grant Meadows and Luke Brooks for receiving rotary scholarships on Thursday night. Camdyn McElroy received the David Ward scholarship last week by the Swansboro Rotary. This was a special event because the Swansboro Rotary Club surpassed 1 million dollars in local scholarships that have been given to our community over the past 40 years. Congratulations to Rachel Rudd and Danielle Chadwick for being selected for Governor's School. They were honored Tuesday night by Onslow County Schools. Mr. Scott and the band did a tremendous job hosting their spring concert on Thursday night and our jazz ensemble participated in MPA this weekend. We are proud to report that they received ratings of superior in all categories.
A special congratulations today goes to Jamel Abalos for finishing in 2nd place in discus and 3rd in shot at the state track competition on Friday. Great job Jamel!
Last week also included our HOSA blood drive. Thank you to all students and staff who participated. HOSA exceeded their goal and Swansboro continues to be known in the region for outstanding community support.
This week in the boro' will include include a leadership/strategic planning meeting on Monday from 4-6 pm to plan for 19/20 as well as a chorus concert. We will host the Swansboro community awards night on Tuesday with our local elementary schools celebrating their awards at 6 pm and the middle and high school at 7 pm. Graduating athletes who have recently signed with colleges will be celebrated on Thursday at 2:30 pm. Thursday night is also the SAT Banquet at Jacksonville High School and we will host an ensemble concert at 7 pm. Friday is Special Olympics.
Seniors are reminded that permission slips for the senior walk through at local schools and Project Graduation are due by this Friday. In closing we would like to thank our Project Graduation parent committee who has done a tremendous job this year preparing for this all night celebration after graduation. The event will include a live concert, a comedian, a trip to the movies to see the new release of Men in Black, tons of food, prizes and cash for all participants and a sunrise breakfast on the beach.
