Time Commitment
Normally, the team meets Thursdays after school from 3:15 pm to 5:00 pm. Right now, this is all still to be determined.
What is the FIRST LEGO League?
Tomorrow's innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They must also design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
FIRST LEGO League competitions consist of 4 main events:
- Robot Games - Three 2.5 minute matches, where the robot is programmed to run autonomously to complete as many missions as possible and accumulate points.
- Robot Design and Strategy Presentation - A 10 minute session in which teams present the robots they built and programmed for the Robot Game, and explain to judges their design and strategy.
- Core Values - A 10 minute session in which teams are given an activity to demonstrate their teamwork, problem solving skills, and other care values central to the mission of FIRST programs (See Vision Statement of FIRST below).
- Research Project - Identify a problem, design a solution, share problem and solution with others.
