China Middle School- Week of April 29
School News and Happenings
April showers brings May flowers?
Spring is here and the warmer temps are slowly arriving! It's hard to believe that it's already May! For our 8th graders this is the final leg of their middle school marathon. We're busy making arrangements for promotion night. We hope to fill these last few weeks with fond memories of friendships and learning.
As we embrace warmer weather, we're excited to share some highlights from earlier this April.
Our student-athletes are shining bright on the baseball/softball fields and track. Baseball and softball have their first games this week while track and field have their first meet. The pickle ball courts are open and students, as well as the community, have been using them often. 😃
In April we celebrated the learning of our students with a fantastic turn out for our CMS Education Fair. Students selected 2-3 projects they were most proud of from this school year and we displayed their work. It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome families into the building to showcase student work. The math team held their final meet of the year in April! Seventh grader, Brody Sevey placed in the top 6 and Gideon Pelkey, also a seventh grader, placed first!
May kicks off with lots of testing. All students in grades 5-8 will take part in NWEA Reading testing this week. Next week we will administer the NWEA math testing. And finally Maine Science testing happens the following week for students in grades five and eight. We've asked students to make sure they have a laptop charger and bring it to school to recharge devices for testing. We appreciate all the help reminding your student(s) to return them to school.
Finally, we wrapped up the third quarter in the month of April with our Student Recognition assembly. We recognized students that achieved honor roll, high honors, as well as Student of the Quarter. Each quarter we recognize two students from each grade level. These students demonstrate precisely what it means to be kind, responsible, and the best version of themselves.
- Fifth grade: Charlotte Livingstone and Jude Randazza
- Sixth grade: Emily Scott and Emma Bailey
- Seventh grade: Lily Lawrence and Oscar Pearson
- Eighth grade: Max Wyman and Maddy Levesque
May is a busy month filled with preparations for the end of the year. Be sure to check out the important dates below for all the latest news and events. Finally, thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to making this spring a memorable and successful one for all our students!

Albert Church Brown Memorial Library LEGO Club
LEGOs Club for Kids is a new initiative at the Albert Church Brown Memorial Library for ages 6-18 (and for adults who may be interested). The Clubs will begin in April, with the younger group meeting late morning and older group meeting early afternoon on Saturdays, start date and time TBD. Participants must have a library card and sign a release, as described below. Children ages 6-10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants may not bring their own LEGOs, nor may they take any off-site. Please fill out the form below. Be sure to indicate if you are currently a library cardholder or if you need to be issued one. We do have limited space so it will be first come first serve. If there is enough interest we may make two groups two accommodate. We are looking for adults and teenagers who would be interested in volunteering to help run it as well. If you are interested in volunteering you can email us at chinalibraryacb@gmail.com or visit us at the library. We are also looking for clean LEGO donations they may be dropped off at the library or left in a bag in the book drop box.

Pine Tree Camp
It’s not too late for your students with disabilities to sign up for summer camp!
Pine Tree Camp is Maine’s only American Camp Association-accredited camp exclusively serving children with disabilities. No camper is ever turned away due to their ability to pay. Thanks to our donors, 100% tuition assistance is available to any camper.
Our week-long overnight summer camp sessions are designed for kids living with a full range of physical and intellectual disabilities (ages 8 to 18).
Spots are filling quickly, but we still have room for your students to register!
I’ve attached a flyer with more information.
You can also learn more on our website https://pinetreesociety.org/camp-home/
Thank you again for your consideration of sharing this information with your families and helping make this a summer of barrier-free fun and friendship for kids with disabilities in our community.
We look forward to welcoming your students to Pine Tree Camp!
