Valley High School Summer Events
Friday, July 3, 2020
We'd like to provide an update regarding summer sports camps, athletics, and activities hosted by Valley High School. Since receiving guidance from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, the Iowa Department of Education (IDOE), and the Polk County Health Department to safely open WDMCS facilities amid the COVID-19 pandemic, athletics and activities programming will continue beginning on Monday, July 6, 2020.
Maintaining the health and safety of our children and staff is our top priority, and mitigation requirements will be followed per the IDOE. Each participant is required to complete a consent waiver, which is available following review of the safety guidelines. A list of additional resources from state and local experts is also available below.
COVID-19 Safety Guidelines
Hygiene: Healthy hygiene practices, such as hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes, will be taught, reinforced, and increased in frequency.
Cleaning: The frequency of cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces and equipment will be increased.
Social Distancing: Programs will be operated while adhering to recommended social distancing guidelines. Spaces during camp instruction will be set up in a respectful manner that limits close contact between participants and coaches.
Signage: Signage and instructional information encouraging social distancing and highlighting other safety measures will be placed prominently throughout Valley and WDMCS facilities.
Parent/Guardian Access: Access to facilities will be limited. Parents can escort their child to the camp's entrance.
Water: Public drinking fountains will not be available. Participants should bring their own portable water bottle.
Items from Home: Participants should not bring anything from home unless they are specifically directed to do so.
- Sharing of Items: Sharing of supplies and equipment will be limited as much as possible.
- Daily Screenings: Participants and staff should screen themselves daily for any symptoms of illness. If a participant or staff has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher for any reason, or a family member in the same household has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher for any reason, they cannot be allowed into the program. If a participant or family member tests positive for COVID-19, they cannot be allowed into the program. The participant or family member should report the diagnosis or exposure to Valley Athletics and Activities Director Brad Rose at roseb@wdmcs.org.
Participants and/or staff who are sick should STAY HOME UNTIL:
- You are fever-free for at least 72 hours (without the use of fever reducing medications),
- AND symptoms have improved,
- AND at least 14 days have passed since symptoms first appeared while in self-quarantine.
Coaches and activity advisors may provide additional safety and facility guidance as it pertains to their respective sport/activity.
