- Strengthens osteocytes (bone cells) of the compact bone
- Required for muscle contractions
- A lack in diet causes Ca to be taken from bones therefore becoming more brittle
Teens require 1200 mg Calcium/day
Glass of milk = 300 mg
cup of cottage cheese = 1300 mg
Plain yogurt = 450 mg
