May Newsletter
Montgomery High School
Thank You
Since the last newsletter, a wide events have occurred or will take place before school ends. The Montgomery High School Education Foundation (MEF) hosted another successful Crab Feed and Montgomery High School Alumni Foundation conducted an outstanding Polenta Feed and Athletic Boosters hosted a fun event, Strikes 4 Vikes, all proceeds will help support all of Montgomery students. I would like to thank all of the many parents, community supporters, and students involved in making these event so successful. Other on and off campus activities include: the Drama Department’s production of Wilde Tales. We have an exciting array of upcoming Dance, Band and Choir concerts, Montgomery also enjoyed an excellent fall, winter, and spring athletic season. As always, there are plenty of activities to challenge, engage and entertain everyone. Even though these opportunities are coming to an end for this year, a new slate will arrive next year and I urge you and your student to take advantage of everything Montgomery has to offer.
With another school year coming to a close, I again extend my gratitude to all the parent volunteers who donated so many hours throughout the year, especially those who served on the parent groups’ executive boards. Without your dedication, Montgomery would be a far different experience for all students. In the same breath, I again urge all parents to volunteer. The need for parent involvement is especially critical at this time. After many years of hard work and dedication, the parents of our seniors are completing their service to Montgomery. Without new volunteers many of the opportunities your student has enjoyed could possibly disappear. There are numerous openings for committee members in Montgomery’s parent organizations (Montgomery High School Education Foundation, Alumni Association, and Athletic Boosters), and on school-based committees (Site Council and ELAC Committee). Please remember, the time you donate directly benefits all students. There is volunteering information go to this Link: Parents/Organizations.
Finally, it has been another awesome year at Montgomery and I thank all parents for the support you have given me. Without your help, my job would be truly undoable. I wish you all a safe, restful and enjoyable summer, and look forward to welcoming you back in the fall.

Montgomery Counseling Department Frequently Asked Questions
What if I want to change a class?
Please pick up a form in the main office during the first week of school. Only submit ONE form and fill out ALL information accurately. Keep in mind that your request might not be possible or available. You may only change a class to pick different elective or request a level change (see below). We cannot change classes due to teacher or specific period requests. If there is a true ERROR on your schedule, please talk to your counselor during orientation before the school year begins.
What if I want to do a course level change?
First speak to your teacher and parent/guardian. If all parties agree that a change (up or down) is appropriate, put in a request to see your counselor for the level change form to be signed. Once all signatures are returned to the counselor, your schedule will be adjusted.
I have a missing class in my schedule and am not sure what to do.
During orientation day, come to the counseling table and your counselor will fix it for you. It is imperative we get this fixed as quickly as possible in order to support you not missing valuable class time.
I turned in an add/drop form, what happens now?
Counselors work as quickly as possible to make the appropriate changes to your schedule. Since there are so many, it may take a couple of days to complete. Also, many classes are full at this time and we may have to wait to see if there is availability later. Please be checking your email DAILY for new schedule.
I am a junior or senior and want to be a Teacher Assistant, Peer Tutor or Elementary School Peer Tutor:
Please pick up a green form in the counseling office. You will need to find your own placement, make sure you get all of the required signatures and read the agreement before turning in the form to your counselor. You MUST be a Junior or Senior with a 2.0 minimum GPA.
I am a senior and want to have 5 classes:
The first option is to pick up a form in the main office to see your counselor. You need to have a total of 180 credits and an approval from your parents to request a free period. Any student who enrolls in a class at SRJC can have a period off at Montgomery. See your counselor for more information.
What if I want to change my teacher?
We do not make any teacher changes unless the student has already taken the same class with that specific teacher and failed; then, we will do our best to support you and your learning.
I have contacted my counselor and I have not heard back yet.
We do our best to respond as quickly as possible to emails and phone calls. Due to the increased work load at certain times of the year, we may take longer than normal to respond.
I am deficient in credits, what are my options?
Cyber High is our after school online credit recovery program and we also offer night school courses. Seniors have first priority to enroll. Beginning approximately the 3rd week of school, counselors will contact students to begin the programs. If you have further questions, please contact your assigned counselor.
I was not able to pick up my schedule at orientation, how can I get it?
On the first day of school, arrive early to pick up your schedule at the designated area.
- School begins on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
- Winter Recess is December 23, 2019 - January 3, 2020.
- Spring Break is March 16 -20, 2020.
- The Class of 2020 is scheduled to graduate on Friday, May 29, 2020.
