Why We Celebrate Read Aloud Day
World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child's right to a safe education and access to books and technology.

Why Read Aloud?
- It provides a positive reading role model and models fluency.
- It addresses learning differences.
- It exposes students to good grammar, rich vocabulary and proper pronunciation.
- It stimulates the students’ imagination, creativity and curiosity.
- It serves as a springboard for discussion and critical thinking.
- It creates community: silent reading is a solitary act; reading aloud creates a shared experience.
- It’s fun!
Tips For Reading Aloud
- If possible, familiarize yourself with the material ahead of time.
- Choose a reading you find interesting.
- Be animated and read with expression and enthusiasm. Don’t be afraid that you will sound silly; your students will love it!
- Ask questions as you read. Ask students to predict what will happen next, or the meaning of a new vocabulary word.
- Talk about the reading during and afterwards to help students understand that reading should not be a passive activity.
