Community Circles Being Held at George Washington High School
The four years that we've decided to call high school are some of the most formative years of human existence. It is in these four years that our kids transition from being boys and girls to young men and women. It is in these four years that student understanding of the world is developed and deepened, based on social experiences, new learning, media, and current events. It would be an understatement to say that the current events of 2020-2021 are weighing heavily on the minds of our students. In an effort to check on how these events are impacting our students, the George Washington High School Community is hosting Community Circles based on the principles of open communication, civil discourse, and positive mental and emotional health. These circles will take place during advisory on Wednesday, January 13th from 9:40-10:10. The focus of these circles is not to generate debate, or to provide a space for adults to step onto a soap box, they are meant to provide a safe and welcoming space for student voice, concerns, fears, and needs to be shared and acted upon. We are excited about the opportunity to learn more about our students so that we may continue serving them to the best of our ability. Parents are invited to listen in at home, as we center student voices throughout this conversation. We thank you for trusting us with your children every day, and for their consistently positive contributions to our community.
