News from Glen Crest Middle School: May 22, 2022
From the Principal
It's hard to believe this is the final week of the school year! Tomorrow is the final day of typical classes for all students.
On Tuesday, our 8th graders will be heading to Ackerman Park District during the day for their celebration, followed by the promotion ceremony that evening. Our 6th and 7th graders will have a modified schedule with a field day in the afternoon. We will be welcoming the current 5th graders to Glen Crest for their "step-up" day. All grade levels will receive their yearbooks on Wednesday and have time to sign them. Wednesday is a half day of school with an 11:15 dismissal.
All students should bring an extra grocery bag or two to school this week for locker clean out.
TECHNOLOGY
6th and 7th grade students will be keeping their chrome books over the summer. They should be stored in a clean, dry place and used for learning only.
8th graders will be turning in their chrome books, cases and chargers on Monday during 9th period. Please remind your 8th grade students to bring their chargers and cases to school with them tomorrow!
Spring Fitness Testing went well! Each grade level improved again! So proud of our students! We hope everyone has a healthy, active and safe summer!

Summer school is FREE this year! There will be a fee in future years.
Courses are taught by Glenbard South staff!
Courses will be held at Glenbard West due to construction at Glenbard South.
There is free bus transportation to Glenbard West.
Bridge courses are only 8 days long! Monday - Thursday for 2 weeks.
See the attached Registration Packet for more information, or email Kelly Maag at kmaag@ccsd89.org.
Reminder - Medication in the nurse's office has to be picked up on or before May 25th. Anything not picked up will be properly disposed of per Illinois School Code.
Please attached this flyer for summer library and reading options. Reading for pleasure over the summer is an important way to keep skills sharp and prevent summer regression. Everyone will have access to books!!
All students will also continue to have access to Khan Academy to practice math skills over the summer. Practicing for 20 minutes 2 times per week will help solidify skills learned this year!
Have a wonderful, safe summer and see everyone in August!
8th Grade Promotion Ceremony - Important!!
All students should arrive by 6:30.
If the forecast changes and there is rain, the ceremony will be moved back to Glen Crest in the gym. If we have to do that, there will be a strict ticket limit of two tickets per student/family. We will make the weather call as early as we can and will do everything in our power to keep the event outside.
Promotion attire - Girls typically wear casual dresses or slacks or a skirt and a top. Shoes or sandals have to be flats or wedges because they will be walking on the turf at Glenbard South. Boys typically wear dress pants or khakis. Some wear a shirt and tie, some wear polo shirts.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 8th graders!
