Packets will be sent home, closer to the actual date. If scholars do not finish the packet it will be considered an absence.

Feeling Sick
With the ever changing weather, we are sending more and more scholars home, due to ilness. As you can imagine, being a small school, illness has the ability to spread fast. That is why we ask that you follow the guidlines put forth by our handbook.
If your child is sent home with a fever, they cannot return to school until they are fever free without medication for 24 hours. Often times, that means your child will not be able to return the following day. Same goes if your child has vomitted. They cannot return until they have gone 24 hours without getting sick.
We have had scholars sent home with fevers, vomitting, pink eye, and hand foot and mouth disease. All of these are highly contagious, and the way children play together, they can spread quickly. Please do not send your children to school if they are experiencing any symptoms of highly contagious ailment, until they are 24 hours symptom free.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
WIth the upcoming Solar Eclipse, our Out of this World club is hoping to make safe viewing contraptions for every student at Promise Prep. In order to do this, we will need some large, normal sized cereal boxes. If you happen to have a box or two, at home, that you can finish, please send the box with your scholar to school. We have collected about 20 and need about 80 more. If we cannot get enough boxes, then we will not be able to give everyone a safe viewing box. Please help if you can.
Boys and Girls Club Calendar
March 25-29(Spring Break)- Club will be open from 9AM-6PM
The last day for the Boys and Girls Club after school program will be Friday May 10th. From May 13- June 5, please make other arrangements for afterschool pickup.
Solar Eclipse Safety
A solar eclipse is when the moon is directly in the path of the sun. It will make the middle of the day look like nighttime. Because the moon will not cover the entire sun, there will be a halo, or ring around the moon. To look at this ring could cause damage to the eyes, and could be temporary or permanent, and the results could not be known until days or weeks later.
Because of this safety concern, schools all around Indiana will be closing. For PLA@PromisePrep, we will be closing school and instituting a learn from home day. Your scholars will receive a packet that will need to be completed. When the packet is completed and returned, the scholar will then be marked present.
Since this is a once in a lifetime experience, many people will be treating this as a celebration. Like any celebration, it is always best if it is safe. Below are some safety suggestions for observing the Solar Eclipse:
1. NEVER look directly into the sun, but especially during an eclipse.
2. The only way to safely observe a solar eclipse is through protective eye wear.
3. Only purchase safety glasses that are ISO 12312-2 standard.
4. Wear the safety glasses at all times leading up the eclipse and until the moon has completely moved through the sun.
We hope you can enjoy this once in a lifetime event safely.
State Testing
Testing Season
NWEA- January and May
ILEARN- Late April, Early May- 3rd and 4th grade only
These tests are not like a classroom tests. They are standardized tests and will cover the knowledge that the scholars have learned over the year.
What can scholars do to prepare for these tests? There is nothing really to study, but they can get a good night sleep, have a protein packed breakfast, show up to school, every day, and on time. Look for specific dates and times, as we get closer to the testing dates.

A Thought from Principal Mayer
This week, we had a stand up meeting with the staff. One of the things discussed, was staying strong. One more week until Spring Break. We encouraged them to keep focused, work hard, and make sure we challenge our scholars. This is probably the hardest time of the school year for everyone.
Another thing we discussed was making sure, on Spring Break, to take some down time. Take some time to rejuvinate. We all have been working hard, dealing with state mandated testing, schedule changes, weather up and downs, and more. It is time to set that all aside, forget about if for a few days, and do something that helps them relax and refresh. Things like, watch a movie, read a book, take a walk, work in the yard, anything other that think about Promise Prep. Taking some time to decompress is important in the rejuvination project.
I want to encourage parents to do the same for their children. Give them time to rejuvinate. Let them play outside, let them watch a favorite movie, read a book, let them sleep in a bit more than usual, take a walk, and most importantly, substitue screen time for movement and activity. Scholars work hard, all day long, at school, let them enjoy the things they like to do. Scholars need time to rest and rejuvinate, just like adults.
This will be the last weekly note until after Spring Break. We wish you all a safe, relaxing, and restful Spring Break. Hopefully all of our scholars and staff come back to school rejuvinated and ready to hit the ground running for the fourth quarter of the school year. I promise you, it will be a busy one!!
