Updates for the Week
Hello Wilkesboro families! We hope that you’ve enjoyed this weekend, and here are updates for the week of February 5-10. You can find full details below.
We want to let you know that we’ve rescheduled our parent advisory team meetings and our PTO family nights that were scheduled for this week. We apologize for the change of date, but calendar changes made it a necessity. We will now host PTO Family Night and Parent Advisory Team on Thursday, February 22 where your family can enjoy dinner with us, a performance by our 2nd and 3rd grade students, and a special event for parents. Please see your child’s folder tomorrow for full details about the upcoming PTO Family Night.
Our PTO would like to invite your family to a fun event called a family dance on Sunday, February 25 from 3:00 - 5:00. Our gym will be transformed into an enchanted forest, and families can gather to spend time together, dance, play games, and enjoy delicious treats. Some families use this as an opportunity to dress up and have an affordable, memorable day out. PTO will have a photographer on hand to capture this special event. PTO only hosts this event every few years, so make plans to attend now. You will get a flier with full details tomorrow, and you can request tickets through a link and QR code on our EAGLE CONNECTION page. If you would like to order tickets with cash and don't want to order online, please contact Mrs. Spears directly on Class Dojo or by email. Families are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance as there will be a limited number at the door.
On Friday, Strawbridge Photography will be here to take class pictures. All children and teachers will be featured in class pictures, and it will be a great way to capture this memorable year. If you’d like to order a picture, please return the envelope and payment to school by Thursday or pay online through our school website.
We officially kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge for the American Heart Association on Friday. Over the next few weeks, we will be educating our students on heart, brain and vascular health, and meeting kids with special hearts! Our own Rogan Johnson is a Kids Heart Challenge ambassador and is sharing his personal story about the importance of a healthy heart. Students can register online and take the challenge to Be Active or Be Kind. We want 100% of our students and their families to sign up online, and no donation is required. You can find links on our EAGLE CONNECTION page and in ClassDojo with directions. We are also collecting donations for the American Heart Association where students can earn prizes toward being heart heroes. We will collect donations on Fridays through February 23, and this Friday, February 9 will be our first donation collection date. Donations can also be made online. We are still taking orders for our 2024 yearbook. You can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from our website by March 15.

It is definitely a busy time, and we’ve got an enjoyable week ahead. We are grateful to our Wilkesboro Elementary family, and we look forward to another great week! Have a good evening!
PTO Online Store Open with New Stuff!
Our WES PTO has an online store where you can buy WES shirts, sweatshirts, and products. Recently, they've added toboggans and vintage WES gear.
This store will run continuously through the rest of the school year. Orders will be pulled each month on the second Monday of the month. Depending on when the order is placed it may take up to 4 - 5 weeks to receive your order. Once orders are pulled they will be processed within 10 - 12 business days. PTO members will deliver products directly to your child's classroom.
You can find the online store at the link below.

You can also sign up for the YMCA after school care using this link for the Wilkesboro Elementary site. Once you are signed up, please communicate with your teacher to let them know your plans.
Also, this year the YMCA classroom will be in building 2. Please park in our back parking lot beside the MEGA Toy playground when coming to pick up your children. Thank you!

We Need Volunteers!
We welcome volunteers to help with school events. WCS uses Volunteer Tracker to help organize this process, and we use Sign Up Genius (shared via email and ClassDojo) to make signing up easy and convenient. To get signed up, follow steps below.
1. Go to www.wilkescountyschools.org
2. Go to the PARENTS tab at the top (or VOLUNTEER at the bottom).
3. Click on VOLUNTEERS.
4. Click on VOLUNTEER TRACKER.
5. Go to the green NEW REGISTRATION and follow instructions from there.
Level 1 volunteers can help in many ways. Level 1 volunteers can sign up to help with book fairs, school events, class parties and projects, Field Day, Fall Festival, and proctoring for tests.
Level 2 volunteers can do all level 1 tasks but can also help chaperone field trips and work more closely with students in small groups. Level 2 volunteers can also sign up for classroom tutoring and assistance, reading buddy program, tutoring, leading after school activities, and chaperoning school events field trips.
We ask that all parents/guardians who plan to attend field trips sign up to be Level 2 volunteers at the start of the year. It takes a few weeks to verify volunteers, and signing up early will make sure that you are approved in time for this year’s events and field trips.

About Attendance
School starts at 7:50 each day. Students who are participating will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes the next day and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. Written notes are required and can come directly from the parent/guardian or a medical office. Also note that ClassDojo messages are great for communicating an absence, but they do NOT serve as legal documentation of absences. Please send a written note. Thanks in advance for your help!
