News from Developmental Kindergarten & Kindergarten
A note from Developmental Kindergarten and Kindergarten:
When preparing your child to start school it is very important to keep in mind a couple of things.
· Please put your child’s name on their clothing and accessories. We have a lot of duplicate items and it is hard at times specially in the winter to keep everything organized. We do not want anyone to lose anything.
· We have snack everyday in class. If your child does not bring their own snack, we do our best to provided something for them but that can be hard on the teacher having to purchase the snacks ourselves.
· Consistent attendance is very important. When your child misses one day they are missing; 90 minutes of literacy instruction, 30-60 minutes of math instruction, multiple opportunities for them to build their social skills, development skills in our special’s classroom and other valuable developmentally appropriate skills taught every day.
· Sleep is the most important thing to work on with your child. When they come to school tired they are missing out on instruction by being distracted because they are tired or not feeling good. If your child falls asleep during class and sleeps even 30 minutes they are missing a lot of instruction. One math lesson is 30 minutes long, a UFLI literacy lesson is 30 minutes long. These are very important skills that students need to have to build their academic building blocks.
· Keep in mind that the staff at the school is here to help you. If you have questions or need help with anything you can always as someone at the school. If they do not have an answer for you, they will do their best to help find someone that can help you.
If you know anyone that had a Kindergarten or so to be Kindergarten age child, please let them know that we are having our 2nd Countdown to Kindergarten event April 18th 6:00-8:00 and we will be doing our school DK and Kindergarten testing on April 30th at the Administration building. It is very important that families attend all events. We look forward to seeing our new Beadle Lake Beavers.
In DK and Kindergarten, we are presently teaching Social Emotional Learning lessons (SEL lessons). The program that we are using is called TRAILS. These are 30 minutes lessons that we can extend throughout the day/week as well. Some of the skills that are being taught are:
1. Self-awareness
2. Self-management
3. Social awareness
4. Relationship skills
5. Responsible Decision Making
These lessons help students understand it is okay to have feelings good or bad, but we need to understand we cannot always act on those emotions. We also teach them coping strategies that can be used anywhere when they are needing them.
One of the toughest years of school is your first year. Throughout Developmental Kindergarten and Kindergarten this year we’ve learned to make friends, play appropriately with others, learn our letters and sounds, participate in several kinds of math experiences, and even learn to read. Something that we’ve started new this year is a program called UFLI. It is an explicit and systematic phonics program. Our kindergarten students have excelled with this program. They amaze us each and every day with how well they stretch and blend their sounds to read and write. This program has carried over into our writing as well. Students use their knowledge of sounds and letter relationships to write amazing response to reading pieces. We hope that you have seen this improvement as well.
Active April with Mrs. Ledbetter 👟
Hello Beadle Lake families & loved ones!
For the month of April, we are going to focus on being active with our bodies and our minds, (and hopefully in soaking lots of beautiful weather!). Being outdoors is a great way to spend quality time as a family, and also enjoy lots of activities, for free! Going on hikes together after dinner, doing nature scavenger hunts on the weekend, birdwatching out the window while having breakfast, or doing yoga in the backyard are great ways to connect, while keeping your mind and body active! Thanks so much for all that you do at home to support your learner in every way, not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

Reading Month was a Huge Success!
During the month of March, many of our students participated in the Read A Thon! We had 108 students activate an account. These students helped to raise $1,850 and of that we get to keep $1480 for us to use toward student, family, and staff incentives. Excellent job Beadle Lake!!
Also last week was our Read and Create at BLE night. The students and families engaged in dramatic storytelling, stem activities, and pie making. This is a wonderful annual event that we hope to continue to grow and increase in participation. I am sharing lots of pictures below.
