Dear Parents,
We want to thank you for your help and supporting us in helping your child succeed because "It takes a Village to raise a child"." Based off the feedback we have received we are excited to announce the launching of our new and improved line of communication through our monthly newsletter. Below you will be able to participate in surveys, get the latest updates on school events and schedule conferences with your child's teacher. There are options on how you can help keep the communications going between you and your child's teacher, so please enjoy our very first newsletter.

Founder
History of HMS
The Reverend Otis L. Hairston Sr. was born on April 28, 1918, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Dudley High School and then attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1941. In 1958, he moved to Greensboro, where he succeeded his father, the Reverend J. T. Hairston, as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. Hairston’s other honors include the Peacemaker Award, the Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Council of Churches, and the NAACP “Man of the Year Award.” In 2001, a new middle school in southeast Greensboro was posthumously named in his honor. Reverend Hairston died on July 18, 2000 at the age of 82.

Please take the time and provide some feedback on the effectiveness of our school communication patterns.
Amplify it!
GCS has been approved for a PACE grant and with this grant every middle school students will receive a tablet. Teachers use these tablets as a good way to share information with you and their students. Please click on the link below to see how teachers are sharing, collecting and providing feedback on assignments to students. Teachers will be sharing our future newsletters via the tablet and all you have to do is open the attachment. (You do not have to have access to the internet to open the shared documents.)
