By Jesse Lopez Period 2 12/10/14
Abolition of Slavery
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist in the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislator.
Court Case-United States Vs. Rhodes
In 1866, Nancy Talbot filed a case due to the lack of enforcement of the 13th amendment. Judge Noah Swayne favored Nancy because he believed that abolition was not very simple to enforce. The 13th amendment then was more heavily enforced. The case made later went on to influence the Civil Rights Act.
My Scenario
Bob had a job at a local factory. He did not like it very much because he had to work 23 and a half hours a day and was paid 10$ per week. When he decided to quit, his boss had not let him and docked his pay to $0 a week. Bob then sued the the company because they violated the 13th amendment. Bob then won the case.
