Dear Lower El Families,
Please read:
Registration has opened for NEW STUDENTS the 2024-2025 School Year! (August is registration for RETURNING STUDENTS)
Please let your friends know about our school: that our school is free, public, & has won many state-level awards! “Follow the Child” means that learning is individualized (no child is learning the exact same thing as any other child, in the classroom; each child is challenged to his/her ability). Children learn to self-regulate - this means choosing which learning extensions they do and with whom/where/how long to spend on any given extension. Natural, beautiful, & wooden materials allow children to move from concrete to abstract understanding of process-rich concepts that require critical thinking and discernment. Finally, we offer lots of enrichment: music, dance, art, P.E., Spanish, science activities, & daily kinesthetics activities.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Monday, March 18th: Teacher Inservice Day (no school)
Parents of 3rd grade-aged kids: ELA/Math CMAS assessments: 1st 2 weeks of April; Let us know, if you have a conflict.
Monday, April 15 - Friday, April 19: Spring Break (no school)

Dear families,
As the weather becomes milder: RESEARCH-BACKED fact: NOTHING beats time spent OUTDOORS. Nothing. As you structure your home life, consider that the outdoors engages more of the senses than anything else. It is a multi-faceted sensory experience. This sensory feedback “lubricates” the myelin sheaths that line axons (the tube-like cells that transmit electricity between your neurons.) This causes the electrical impulses to transmit more smoothly & efficiently.
[Screen time does the exact opposite: your visual is “locked in” at a certain distance from the screen, & you’re not using peripheral vision at all. Likewise, auditory & tactile input = “locked in”. Even proprioceptive (balance) senses aren’t being used. The myelin sheaths atrophy, causing axons to become blocked.]
… So: time outside = the best!
