Langston's Letters
January 23 - January 27
A Note from the Principal
Dear Langston Hughes Family,
January 31st marks the end of the first half of the school year. At this point of the school year we begin to assess student progress toward promotion. We look at student performance on classwork and tests and progress from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year on our school-wide assessments.
Any student who is not demonstrating grade-level performance or adequate progress toward grade-level performance will receive a Promotion-in-Doubt (PID) letter in February. The PID letter serves as a signal that we have approximately 3 months to help the student demonstrate enough progress that he or she can be promoted in June.
If your child receives a PID letter in February you must:
- Make an appointment with your child's teacher for a PID meeting to discuss which areas (reading, math, or both) require extra work
- Pay close attention to your child's homework. Check it each night.
- Make sure that your child is reading each night.
In next week's newsletter I will share some tips for having a productive PID meeting with your child's teacher, and how it can help you get your child back on track.
Have a wonderful week!
