PTO Board Nominations
Last Call for PTO Board Nominations
The deadline for indicating an interest in a position on the Talley Street Upper Elementary PTO board has been extended to Wednesday afternoon. Anyone interested in one of the positions below should send an email to Principal Billy Heaton at bheaton@csdecatur.net. Voting to elect members of the PTO board will be held during the Curriculum Nights, August 20th and 21st.
All board members are expected to attend the monthly board meetings at the school as well as coordinate the work of designated PTO committees. For the positions with staggered terms, please indicate which term you are interested in. The responsibilities of each position are:
Co-President (2) - There will be two co-presidents serving the PTO board each year. For this first year, one co-president will serve a one-year term and the second will serve a two-year term. A new co-president will be elected each year, so we will always have one veteran co-president and one new one. The co-presidents are responsible for coordinating all the work of the board, running the monthly meeting and signing off on any funds distributed (reimbursed expenses, payments made for supplies, etc.) In addition, the co-presidents supervise the work of the Diversity Committee, Yearbook Committee, and School Supplies Committee.
Co-Vice Presidents (2) - There will also be two co-VPs each year, with the terms staggered. This year, one position will be a one-year term and the second will be a two-year term. Each year, one new vice president will be elected. The VPs help the presidents coordinate the work of the board and are responsible for supervising the following committees - Field Day, Variety Show, Meet and Greet, 5th Grade Experience, Movie Night, Fall/Spring Socials, and Night of Expressions.
Co-Treasurers - Elected to staggered terms in the same way as the presidents and vice presidents. The treasurers maintain all of the financial records of the PTO, ensure compliance with financial regulations governing nonprofit organizations, sign checks distributing the funds of the PTO and prepared our records for an annual audit. Committee responsibilities include: Fundraising, Spirit Wear, Book Fair, Passive Fundraising and Spirit Nights.
Secretary - Takes the minutes of monthly board meetings and keeps a record of all business conducted, ensures compliance with the PTO bylaws. Committee assignments include: Garden Committee, Wylde Center Partnership, and Transportation.
Communications Chair - The communications chair is responsible for communicating with the larger Talley community the work of the board and PTO events. He or she maintains the website and social media channels and is the board support person to the Room Parent Coordinator, MyMITSY school directory, and the Parent Talks committee.
