Audition Week Breakdown:
Audition Clinic Information
Each day of our audition clinic, we will teach students the skills and choreography they need to know in order to audition on Thursday, May 2nd. This includes:
- Brief cardio warmup of jumping jacks, full-body twists, knee raises, and jump ropes (students will not do this during their audition)
- Stretch exercise students can replicate and practice at home (students will not do this during their audition)
- Naming different components of the flag (students will not do this during their audition)
- Body skills including: tendus and rolls
- Flag skills, including: drop spins, cones, and pop tosses
- A dance and flag choreography combination
During their actual audition slot on May 2nd, students will remain in their assigned groups. We will do each portion of the audition approximately 3 times to give students an opportunity to showcase their tenacity and efforts. Students are never judged on single-occurrence mistakes.
After a student has auditioned on May 2nd, they are free to go home! They are also allowed to stay and cheer on their friends in later audition groups, but they cannot watch other audition.
How to be prepared at auditions:
- White t-shirt that can be written on (we will write an audition number on this shirt.)
- Black leggings or shorts (no baggy sweatpants)
- Socks and shoes (shoes will be removed during audition clinic)
- Long hair needs to be tied up (ponytail, pigtails, braids, bun, etc). This is a safety hazard.
What to bring to the auditions:
- Water (we will be exercising and sweating!)
- Completed medical release form
- Positive attitude!
Expectations:
- Phones are to be silenced and in backpacks during the audition clinic.
- Please allow students to have a snack prior to entering the audition clinic. We do not want anyone getting sick from an empty stomach!
- Auditions are closed to the public.
- Parents should arrive to pick up their student no later than 6:00PM. Teachers and staff members cannot leave until all students have been picked up.
Check out our performances from this school year!
Experience and private lessons
NO experience is necessary to try out for the McCullough Color Guard! Students may benefit from lyrical dance and ballet experience. See below for several private lesson instructors who may offer slots to prepare individuals for the audition process. These individuals are all former McCullough Color Guard students who have been on the TWHS World Guard for multiple years. We trust them greatly.
