Tissues in the Body
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, and Nervous
Epithelial Tissue
Epithelial Tissue covers the surface of the body. It is composed of closely packed cells arranged in one or more layers. The tissue also lines the insides of organs in the body. Epithelial tissue is classified by the cell's shape and arrangement. The shape of the cells can be squamous (flat), cuboidal (cube shaped), or columnar (elongated). The arrangement can be simple (one layer) or stratified (multi layer). The Epithelial tissue functions in protection, sensation, secretion, absorption, excretion, diffusion, cleaning, and reduces friction.
Connective Tissue
Nervous Tissue
Nervous Tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and the nerves throughout the body. Nervous tissue generates and transmits nerve impulses to and from body organs via neuron. Nervous tissue allows humans to sense stimuli in both the internal and external environment.
